CoachArt was founded by Zander Lurie in memory of his father, Dr. Arthur "Art" Lurie, who passed away in 1996 after a 6-year battle with multiple myeloma. Dr. Lurie, a cardiac surgeon, devoted his life to the healing and wellness of his patients, and loved teaching and mentoring kids. CoachArt lessons are completely free of charge to the children and their families. Due to the physical, emotional and financial burdens that these families endure, CoachArt is providing a service that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. Our programs are about normalcy, giving these children a place where no one focuses on their illness ? where they are just normal kids learning about their favorite pastime. In this creative learning environment, they are able to regain self-esteem, social skills and independence that is lost while battling chronic illness.

Target demographics:

children with chronic illness and their siblings

Direct beneficiaries per year:

students by providing nearly 20,000 hours of lessons.

Geographic areas served:

Los Angeles and the Bay Area

arts and athletics

My son Blake has been involved with Coachart for almost three years. He takes golf lessons every week with the most caring, dedicated, heartwarming coach. Beyond the golf lessons, his coach Al has become a member of our family and takes care of Blake just like an uncle would. Coachart has given Blake a sense of pride that he can excel in something and has inspired him to have a life become a professional golfer. Something to strive for and look forward to. We all look forward to the lessons every week so we can get together with friends. An AMAZING organization!!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen how this organization has made my son smile every time he shows up for his lessons. It takes his mind off of all the other things going on in his life....even for just an hour a week.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have more volunteers around the country so more kids could see the happiness and love.

Our family has been involved with Coachart for three years now. They have been absolutely wonderful to my son, Grayson. He has been taking golf lessons and been able to get out and be independent when he is feeling up to it. When he is not feeling good and is having tough times everyone is always around to support him through that as well.
The best part of Coachart is almost everyone involved volunteers their time, so you know their hearts are in the right place.
Coachart is not just an organization, it is now part of our family.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being able to see and experience first hand what a positive impact people reaching out to us during difficult times has made.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Encourage more people to donate their time, services and whatever contributions they can make so that more kids like Grayson can be part of the Coachart Family!
