If all non-profits operated like Clinica Verde the World would be a better place! By integrating health care, nutrition & gardening advice, childcare and farmer's market, all in an ecologically sustainable and replicable format, Clinica Verde shows the way forward, while being very sensitive to the needs of its community. We gave a little money, advice and encouragement and they ran with it! We could not be more proud of Clinica Verde and Susan Dix-Lyons.

Clínica Verde is an innovative project that will serve an extremely vulnerable and deserving population – a population that is among the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Perhaps Clínica Verde’s most exciting aspect is that it has been designed to be environmentally sustainable and replicable from the very beginning, so it provides a clear model for steadily increasing access to care throughout the region and throughout the world. Under Susan Lyons’ outstanding leadership, Clínica Verde has assembled a top-notch advisory board and is weaving close ties with its future client community as well as with other major charitable, government, and health care institutions in the region. This network of support will ensure continued project momentum. I’m very excited about this project and have no doubt that it will have a tremendously positive impact on health outcomes in Nicaragua.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching it create tremendous enthusiasm among donors and raise an impressive amount of starting capital

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase the involvement by non-physician health care professionals (such as nurses, social workers, midwives, etc.) who may have a valuable perspective on how best to serve its client population; push more research on best ways to reach & serve clients

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

its innovative nature and the way it is hooked into the community to ensure that it gets the support it needs

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

knowledgeable, enthusiastic and energetic

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make a huge difference to the health and happiness of some very deserving people

Ways to make it better...

I had been involved sooner!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

raising enough money to ensure the financial viability of its clinic operations

One thing I'd also say is that...

this is a very exciting program that deserves support

I have a particular interest in Central America as I have other business responsibilities there. Once I learned of this project and met the people in my community who were involved, I was inspired to lend my food service design expertise to this vital project.

My introduction to Clinica Verde came from a dinner a few years ago when Susan Dix Lyons asked my husband to be a Board Member. Though I felt his plate was full with other non-profit board responsibilities, I could only encourage him to become involved. The dedication, passion and respect displayed by this Board to all aspects of their mission is truly amazing in the non-profit and volunteer world.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Take their health-clinic model and export it to other areas in need of these services.

I am the Parish Priest of the Episcopal church taht the Lyon's family attends in St helena, CA. It has been both a privilege and a blessing to be a witness to the inception of Cinica Verde, and now to see it about to open its doors. Susan Lyons has incredible passion, administrative expertise, and team-building skills that would be the envy of any Pastor. The work she has done to cast a life-changing vision and galvanize people around it is nothing short of miraculous. Were one to ever wonder how the hand of God works to make love manifest in a broken worls, one need look no further than Clinica Verde. What a story and what a ministry. May God continue to so richly bless it. Pax, MAC+

I have been working with Clinica Verde since 2007 and with another non-profit in Nicaragua for the past 7 years. I found the mission of Clinica Verde, to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates within the country, such a compelling and worthy vision that there was very little doubt that I was going to get involved. All the people who are part of this organization, both on the Board of Directors and those tasked with implementation, are such a compassionate and caring group that it is energizing just to be part of this great cause.

I believe in the good works of Clinica Verde because the organization will improve the lives of the imoverished by providing the medical care and equipement we all take for granted. For instance, Clinica Verde will reduce the high number of preventable deaths that result from complications during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period in a largely rural and low-income area. Having said this, the overall vision of the founders is to increase educational attainment and to promote economic opportunity.

Passion is what drives the founders who believe they can make a difference. But whilst passion is important, Clinica Verde's team is comprised of highly qualified individuals with the right skill-sets to actually make things happen.

I am a dutch citizen and met the President and Founder of Clinica Verde in California late 2007 during our holiday. My wife and I were really impressed by the passion, commitment and knowledge of her and the Board of Clinica Verde and were able to raise funds in Europe for this wonderful cause. Clinica Verde is a prototype nonprofit organization in need of the last small push of donors to finish construction of their first, much-needed, project in one of the poorest regions in Nicaragua.
