Thank you for your kind consideration of CRKA! Our region is privileged to have the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association serving the community. CRKA has served our area by "identifying and helping meet the needs of kidney disease." They are dedicated to providing life-saving services to those in need. CRKA and the many volunteers within the organization are well known for outstanding patient care. The organization offers guidance and assistance to hundreds of people who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. As an independent organization, CRKA is able to provide services that strive to make patients the priority and provide the necessary assistance that they deserve. We are grateful for CRKA's continuous efforts to combat kidney disease and everything they do for Cleveland, Rutherford, and Gaston Counties.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Through being their State Senator and witnessing their good work throughout the community.

I began volunteering for CRKA over 20 years ago. Since then, I have seen how CRKA has helped patients and families affected by kidney disease. Our organization helps those who come to us with medication, travel to the hospital and dialysis, food, clothing, bills, etc. This organization never turns folks away and does everything in its power to help those in need. Without funds to keep us going, I am not sure how long we can continue to serve the kidney patients of Cleveland and Rutherford counties.

Over the years I have personally seen how we have helped people with medications, food, clothing and just being there to offer support, guidance or to just lend an ear when they needed to unload. We provide a phenomenal service to our community.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing immediate results when we help our patients. I also enjoy meeting our patients and their families and knowing that we have helped them in some small way.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

wonderful, kind and compassionate. All of our volunteers are there to help our patients and to see to their needs.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

move mountains and help even more folks in our area!

Ways to make it better...

I had personally had more money to give. I can give of my time though and have missed very few fundraisers over the last 20 years.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

money to keep us going. It would also be nice to have a larger facility to host patient events.

One thing I'd also say is that...

there could be no better non-profit around that the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association!

Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Assoc. does so many things for the patients and their family. I am so proud to be able to say that I was a volunteer and if I had not moved out of the area I would still be helping today. I hope that with this review that it will benefit them in many ways. I am so honored to be able to see some of the art work for Pennies for Heaven...

I am a kidney disease patient in addition to being a volunteer. Recently I had a kidney transplant from a living donor. CRKA members came all the way to Duke Medical Center in Durham NC to visit and to give support to my family during surgery, afterwards in ICU and then for the rest of the three months we were there (due to secondary complications). We are home now and I'm back helping at support center which is "therapy" in itself. Volunteers and staff are always popping in to give me words of encouragement.

I would beg for more money because their service area is already economically depressed. They have had to cut back on services and we need those reinstated.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The people are fantastic--volunteers & staff came the 4 hour drive to visit with me in the hospital; they sent cards, pictures, books & words games they know I like. They continue that support right up to today.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Staff was friendly & helpful. Volunteers especially were funny and kept me laughing I don't remember part of my stay due to heavy medications, but volunteers would remind of of things the care team or dr. said @ tests, results, side effects, & follow up.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Pay the co-pays of medicine, OTC meds, buy adult diapers, Ensure or groceries, utility bills, prevent evictions, & help keep families together. ESRD is detrimental to the family unit. But CRKA helps relieve some of the burdens patients & families/friends

Ways to make it better...

..specific volunteers could've stayed with me 'round the clock.' The ones who kept me laughing helped me cope with the infections & secondary effects of my surgery. They listen.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Money. Maybe could open a thrift store as they get in clothes, games, books, personal items. What isn't taken or given to clients is sold in yard sale.People call wanting to donate cars, applicances, furniture & crka has noplace to store it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Volunteers & staff are very dedicated to goals of CRKA. We have a depressed economy. When textiles moved to other countries, and jobs were lost, it has put a huge burden on citizens here. Yet, they still try to support CRKA as best they can.

My son went through kidney failure, dialysis, a kidney transplant, rejection, dialysis and his death during a five year period. The CRKA was there through every joy and crisis our family experienced. My son loved the staff and they loved him. We could not have endured what we went through during that time without their support. All my family became volunteers and did benefits in memory of my son. We raised over 50,000 doing barbecue benefits each year for 13 years. We thank God the Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association was there for us in our time of need. Michelle Hoyle is currently the director. Sincerely, Linda Petty & family.
