Issues: Civil Rights, Homeless & Housing, Human Services

Location: 1423 E Oak Street New Albany IN 47150 USA

Mission: Clean Socks Hope is a 501©(3) nonprofit dedicated to faithfully empower our neighbors toward health and wholeness. “We are a community that radiates hope for all residents through empowering relationships.”
Results: Midtown Neighborhood Network: To date, 12 families that total 37 family members in partnership with Dare to Care and Hope Southern Indiana offers between $75 to $125 of groceries every other week offering dignity and hope! 66% of the participating families came from the Christmas Store the others from Midtown Commons! 100% of the relationships came from Midtown Commons! That’s 37 family members that are not using the old food pantry model. The food co-op is different than the traditional “Food Pantry” because the patrons buy into it and run it themselves! We as a collective only facilitate a place and help with the initial setup. The families of the community run a “Food with Dignity” program instead the old Food Pantry model that creates voids in families without transportation and typically only allows access to meals a few times a year. The Christmas Store: December 2012: 213 (143 children benefited from the program!) for a total of 58 families; 94% of our participant parents were women; Total Hope Bucks Spent—$3,366.24 (269 Work Hours) meaning that each family worked an approximate 7.5 hours toward their Christmas benefits; Total Retail Inventory Value—$19,526.97 for the 4 week period provided to our parents and grandparents; Hard Work = Hope. Our next goal is to purchase and take what has been a blight on the city (three lots that have been former drug houses) and restore it to a place of hope and redemption! The idea being that we raze the 2nd house and use the empty lots as green space for a raised bed community supported inspirational gardens.
Target demographics: Our passion, purpose and focus as a group has evolved and since 2010 has focused on impoverished children (the average age for the homeless in America is 9 years old) and their parents (almost always a single mother with an average of 2 children to care for). We work in partnership with Northside Christian Church on Oak St. and Hope Southern Indiana (formerly Interfaith Community Council) and area "like thinking" missions and organizations, churches and grass root organizations.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 720
Geographic areas served: Louisville (KY) Metro, (New Albany) Southern Indiana
Programs: OUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE: The Christmas Store—Hope for Parents Program positions potential candidates to the store itself and to the Midtown Neighborhood Network. The Christmas Store: December 2012—58 Families Impacted—213 of that number (143) are children. 94% of parents were women. Hope Bucks Spent—$3,366.24 (269 Work Hours) each family worked an approximate 7.5 hours toward Christmas benefits. Total Retail Inventory Value—$19,526.97 Hard Work = Hope. And Then – Midtown Neighborhood Network: To date, nine families that total 26 family members in partnership with Dare to Care and Hope Southern Indiana offers between $75 to $125 of groceries every other week offering dignity and hope! 66% of the participating families came from the Christmas Store the others from Midtown Commons! 100% of the relationships came from Midtown Commons!

I don't know anyone who cares more and is as selfless as the team behind Clean Socks. They are the invisible souls in the background who just get it done. They truly follow His Word and ask for no kudos, no recognition but they're always there, supporting and giving of their time and hearts. Their contribution to their cause is immeasurable and for each dollar or hour received, they contribute ten-fold. God Bless Clean Socks!!!

I chose to give my time and donations to Clean Socks Hope because it is a grass roots charity founded and run by individuals who truly want to help others in need. Homelessness is too often a forgotten fight. The executives and volunteers at Clean Socks Hope have for years given a great deal of time to raise awareness and to assist the homeless. Clean Socks Hope works the cause all year long, building relationships and working with community leaders and activists to provide help and support to the homeless year round. All of the donations go those in need.
