Community Reviews

Churches Active in Northside (CAIN) provides emergency assistance to Northside neighbors in need and also provides much- needed programming for children and youth. I choose to live in Northside because it is economically diverse, and I see how some members of our community struggle financially. The people at CAIN are very good at connecting people in need with available resources, and I feel tremendous confidence when I recommend their services to neighbors. And-- just as important--CAIN promotes a sense of community and unity for all Northside residents, bringing us together for fund-raising events like the annual neighborhood-wide yard sale and soliciting our involvement as volunteers and donors. In these ways, CAIN unites us as a neighborhood.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have experienced CAIN's effectiveness when I recommended its services to a neighbor in need. She was nervous and ashamed to ask for help, and I offered to go with her to CAIN. Everyone we encountered was respectful and helpful and this put my neighbor at ease, and she received information and assistance that improved her situation.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find resources to increase the amount of programming for youth, especially in leadership development.

i attended the "training" session for this year's Angel Shop. I've always wanted to volunteer in our Northside community (we just moved here), and thought CAIN would be a great place to start since it's right across the street. I was surprised by the turnout. They have so many supporters...it was inspiring! Everyone I met was so friendly and approachable and they seemed to be very organized. I look forward to my volunteer time with them in December!

Living across the street I have witnessed quite a few events and collaborations that CAIN has been involved in, but this is my first experience joining them. We also gave to their "everything but the Turkey" drive. Very nice program!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I'm not sure. Haven't completed my volunteer work yet.

What makes Churches Active in Northside (CAIN) truly stand out as a great organization is that, in addition to providing basic necessities such as food and clothing to those in need, CAIN makes the Cincinnati-area neighborhood of Northside a stronger, more vital community. Through the various events CAIN holds throughout the year, such as a pancake breakfast on the 4th of July, or a neighborhood-wide yard sale, neighbors in the community come together in fellowship and in support of those who need it most.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing firsthand how my neighbors in need were able to receive food and shelter during a time of crisis.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the facility.

Was your donation impactful?

Definitely

How likely is it that you would recommend that a friend donate to this group?

Definitely

How likely are you to donate to this group again?

Definitely

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

Although I donate financially on a regular basis throughout the year, CAIN's e-mail newsletters are sent out to describe specific needs, such as Thanksgiving dinners, or personal care items. I was able to respond to the Thanksgiving e-mail and donate food items to make up a Thanksgiving dinner for a family. I also responded to a recent e-mail about CAIN's need for personal care items.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

Because I'm fortunate enough to have more than I need right now, and I want to help those who have a need for it, for as long as I can.

What would you tell others about this organization?

CAIN does so much good, and touches so many lives, that it's a true gift to our community.

Great organization that has partnered extremely well with the community. CAIN has taught the community the valuable lesson of learning that the poor are you and me, my uncle, my neighbor, the stranger, the child - the least of these.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

everyday encounters.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It teaches me grace, humility and love.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

hard-working and thoughtful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

address the housing needs and the employment needs in Greater Cincinnati.

CAIN is a great asset to Northside. They genuinely care about every person who comes through their doors. It blew me away how much the staff, volunteers and even the clients gave so much of themselves and would do anything they could to help. (I personally witnessed a client give her last 2 dollars so another client could buy a fan.) This atmosphere is contagious and all involved are very special. They are truly a blessing to Northside.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the genuine care they have for each person who walks through the door. Each person is welcomed as if they were Christ. I have witness staff and volunteers go way out of their way to help on a daily basis.

It just blows we away of all the good CAIN has done for Northside. We at North Side Bank love working with CAIN and help in all the drives and whatnots. I really think CAIN is one of the best organizations out there!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

turn North Side into a more beautiful, safe home for families!

CAIN works very hard at helping the community in every aspect; they show the true meaning of working together to help those in need. I support this group in very way I can because I know that people who are helped by CAIN, when possible, always give back to them which helps the next person...AND THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT...helping each other

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that I can provide something that makes someone else's life alittle easier
