Mission: The Church and Mary's Place provide day shelter and a community for supporting women through the multiple difficulties of homelessness, including poverty, stress, domestic violence, abuse, mental and physical illness, addiction and destructive habits. We offer healing opportunities for mind, body, and spirit, and as a community we gather our strength and hope from each other and recover our dignity as women created in the image of God, who loves each one of us.We are a Christian community, but we offer a warm welcome to all women, regardless of faith, creed, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or class.

Fabulous non-profit, where every person counts and all are invited to share their stories and lives with one another. My family has been volunteering for over 10 years and enjoys feeling a part of the Mary's family.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the healing of women who are engaged in recover from addictions, mental health issues, behaviors that prevented them from sustaining long term housing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Purchase its own building to be free from the risks of landlords who choose to do "something else with the space." It would offer stability into the future for this vital service that offers life skills for folks to get permanent housing for the long haul

I have been volunteering at Mary's Place for a few months. I started with a one-off volunteer event and was so impressed I decided to volunteer there weekly. I have never felt so comfortable and appreciated as I do at Mary's Place. I look forward to my time there every week. It's such an amazing safe place for women and children to go to get a hot meal, a shower, toiletries, clothing, medical attention, do crafts, do their laundry, go on field trips, and so much more. They are structured but easy-going. The best thing, above all, is the people. Everyone is treated as an equal and with the utmost respect no matter what situation someone may be in. I am the one that feels lucky to be able to sit, chat and knit with these amazing women!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exceptionally nice, engaged and appreciative.

I had the privilege of working here for two years, and never in my ten years of nonprofit work have I seen such amazing, lifechanging work as I did at the Church of Mary Magdalene and Mary's Place. Love is thick in the air there, and it is a very nourishing thing for people who are hungry in all sorts of ways (both housed and unhoused people!).

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

lives changed, physically, emotionally, and spiritually -- including my own!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give it more money!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the relationships I built with the women of Mary's Place.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so involved and dedicated.

Ways to make it better...

I could have stayed in that job for years!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

money, money, money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

A few years ago a group of women from the church I attend visited MM and took a meal AND had a worship service. I'll never forget what a gift it was to me, to be with other women, no matter what their personal circumstances. Thank God for Mary Magdalene.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very optimistic but realistic wonderful women!

I've been bringing lunch with the ladies from my church for 12 years. This is always a high point for me: we're greeted by staff and church members with offers of help to find the kitchen and the equipment we need. Usually we'll put food in the oven to warm and then join the church members for the worship service. What an unforgettable service it always is: interactive sermons on a theme, with women sharing about abuse, struggling with chemical dependency, their joy in having found this community in which to share the love of God. The hymn singing (often old gospel tunes dear to me) lifts my heart. Lunch is quite a scene with additional guests coming in from on the street. With God's grace we always have enough food despite the fact that we may serve 30-85 women and children. Always there are thanks and signs of gratitude from the guests.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Providing a place of safety and growth for homeless women.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The joy shared with me by the homelss clients.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Welcoming, but also very realistic about the needs and challenges of their population.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Wow. Build a faith-based multi-service agency with showers, work opportunities, permanent housing with all the social and CD support necessary to keep women housed.

I had the wonderful opportunity to donate many household items to the Church of Mary Magdalene. Everyone I encountered was very appreciative and accomodating. A few months later I received a personal note from a woman who benefited from my donations. To be honest it was one of the highlights of my year. I'm not kidding. It made me cry. I look around at all I have and even though by some standards it is not a lot it's plenty for me. The idea that I had a direct hand in how someone got back on their feet after many years of being homeless is priceless. The people at Mary Magdalene were so happy to be receiving these needed items but really the happiness I felt after that note was hundred fold. So although you are asking for constructive criticism I have none to give. I'm just grateful for your organization in that it allows me to "DO" something for others. The only possible thing I might suggest is that you make it easier to find you on the web in that you make it clear that you accept items and donations to help women specifically and their families. I found it hard to find an organization in the area that does so. And that where you drop of donations is not where the church is. Maybe some word optimization might help. Thanks again! Sue Boivin

I do not know enough about this organization but based on my own experience; transform lives and actually make a difference in a short period of time.
