CVHN turns 9 yrs old this month! The organization began because of the dire need of one child.
This particular child was bullied and needed orthodontics and counseling.I saw him every Wednesday at an after school outreach program. He was a terror but had leadership qualities that could go in
any direction if misguided.
I told myself that someone should help this child...and someone did...an entire grassroots community began a movement to care for all the underinsured and uninsured children in need of medical, dental, mental health and vision receive help.
In the past 9 yrs over 7,000 appts have occurred ,92 volunteer medical providers participate and we have a full time dental clinic and dental bus.
All children deserve to be healthy and happy.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would like to be able to serve more children by adding another dental bus. We are a faith asked nonprofit and depend upon private donations. Would love to have CVHN receive an endowment to carry the foundation through the coming years

CVHN is a grassroots organization that was formed to help our most vulnerable population-Children. Each child is precious and receives the same care a paying client would receive through our volunteer providers.
Medical, dental and mental healthcare are not luxuries, they are necessities.I have
seen lives changed. One boy in particular who was the catalyst for the formation of the organization was bullied in school. He was on detention more than he was in class for fighting.A very angry boy.
The kids called him monster mouth beause he had several teeth all in the wrong place. His single mom had no resources and another child at home.CVHN asked an orthodontist to help this boy.The transformation was almost immediate when he received his medically needed braces.Grades went from D's and F's to B's and he became the youngest manager of the wrestling team. There are many kids like him that CVHN has been blessed to help.We can impact lives with words but action changes worlds.

The Great!

I have seen lives changed. Not just the kids we are blessed to help but the lives of all of those who help grow this organization. We are truly the ones who benefit the most! When we first launched the Dental Bus and I saw the kids getting their first check up,grades k-5 and the number of cavities..I knew we had a mission and purpose that was bigger than all of us!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

most likely address the staff and board and ask.."if there is a need that we are not meeting or a child we cannot help due to a lack of funding, how can we change that!" Other than that ,our plan is to serve, change with the needs of the community and continue to pray.

The real results for the children in our community
is so critical to their well being and future. What's
better than to see a smile on the face of a child
whose just seen the dentist? Well, maybe the
child who just received glasses and can see well
for the first time in their
memory. All of the children
serviced will have a better life as a result of the
volunteers efforts.

Children's Volunteer Health Network does some of the most important work in our community. More than 2/3s of residents do not have health insurance. They are making a tremendous difference in the lives of many families.

I have seen 1st hand that this is a service that is truly needed in our community and surrounding. We are blessed to have the group of people serving and giving of thier time and assistance to make it possible. Being in need doesnt have to mean being needy, its what we share when others arent on top of thier plan or have been knocked down. This service gives confidence to the children served in school and in the nieghborhood. This group of givers should be honored for thier wonderful service to this area!

My nephew was a patient on the Mobile Dental Clinic and her was the happiest little boy ever. He went to a dentist prior to that visit and was strapped down to a chair while his mother was not allowed to be in the room with him so he was scared to have dental work and also his mother could not afford to take get any other procedures he needed complete. CVHN made him comfortable and took his fears of the dentist chair away. I wish this was a non profit in many more areas of our country. Much needed!

As a former principal and teacher, I have seen many children trying to learn in school when they have a toothache, have not had a good night's sleep because of pain or family problems. I know that it's very hard for children to learn when they are enduring physical or mental pain. That's why it gave me great pleasure to volunteer to help CVHN care for these children. It's been my pleasure to transport grateful parents and children to dental and counseling appointments. It was a joy to deliver small gifts of appreciation to the wonderful dentists and other health care providers at special times. I also spent several days working on the dental bus. Since I was familiar with the schools, I was able to pick the children up from class, deliver them to the bus, and take them back to class after treatment.

The students and their parents that I've helped have been extremely grateful for the services that CVHN provides. I've seen much enthusiasm from the donors who feel they are doing something that is much needed.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Devise a way for volunteers to work from home. They could type, write letters, create newsletters, stuff envelopes, etc.

CVHN's contribution to childern's health and dental needs is incredible. In addition to the direct help it provides to the children and their families, it gives the children renewed confidence in school and in their nieghborhood. Once they are no longer worrying about their health or dental needs, or suffering from the pain of unknown causes, they can then just focus on being kids and excelling in school.

CVHN has an outstanding mission - to help provide medical/dental care for uninsured or underinsured children in Walton and Okaloosa counties. The best testimonials are given by the children. Kids that have never visited a dentist are greeted by a warm and personable staff onboard the Mobile Dental Clinic in the familiar location of their school parking lot. Children that have earned bad grades because of poor eyesight receive not only glasses, but a new found confidence. The results can be measured daily by the growing number of children in our local community that are helped by the tireless volunteers and commited medical professionals dedicating their time and talents. It is an outstanding organization and I am proud to be a member.

My children attend a local elementary school and I am amazed by the number of their friends that visit the Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC). It hits close to home when your kids come home and talk about what a great experience the MDC provides their playmates and how it really impacted their lives.

I have helped CVHN with several mini projects. The most gratifying was when I was able to accompany a child to an optometrist appointment. This little boy was having trouble seeing the chalkboard and reading at school. A local Dr. gave this child an eye exam and within an hour made him a pair of glasses. This child was so happy to look in the mirror and see himself clearly. He could hardly wait to get home and put on his basketball uniform and go play some serious basketball. What a relief it would be to finally see the backboard perfectly in focus at school the next day too!
CVHN runs its foundation on a shoestring budget, yet the staff is professional and the team of medical professionals create an environment for HOPE. HOPE for those who may never have a dental exam. HOPE to be able to read a book thanks to a pair of new glasses. HOPE that there can be medical attention for specific needs.
CVHN was certainly birthed in HOPE, literally a dream come true. What an encouraging service to provide above and beyond those physical needs.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Personally experiencing the thrill of a boy being able to see and smile in the mirror at himself, and be appreciative of his new glasses.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find more volunteers who could see the JOY that this place brings to kids who are hopeless.
