COTEF is a fantastic organization offering children an experience that cannot be found at typical summer camps. Their volunteer/faculty to student ratio provides the attending children with so much personal attention and their emphasis on an experiential approach to wilderness skills leaves children with more of a sense of ownership than traditional teaching methods. I plan on sending my neice as soon as she is old enough, and my only complaint is that I wish it existed when I was a child.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the young adults who attended the programs as children. Their sense of purpose in life and ability to make good choices when faced with adversity is no doubt enhanced by their experiences at COTEF.

Excellent organization with a purpose that is so necessary in today's world. What could be a more noble, more important task than helping our youth better appreciate the world they live in? Their promotional video brought me to tears; I have nothing but the greatest respect for the magic they're creating with kids. Prayers and best wishes for continued success into the future!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the current economy and the inability of people to afford their programs.

My time spent with this organization was one of the best weeks of my life. I enjoyed the enthusiasm of the instructors and the immense knowledge they had to give about the earth and living naturally. The philosophy of Tom Brown Jr and COTFEF is essential education for all people; even just one class will help give us all a deeper appreciation for our planet, and the connection we need to live in balance.

Most kids these days suffer from Nature Deficit Disorder. The only way to cure this is to get them deeply immersed in nature. Since we tend to fear what we do not know, and we destroy that which we fear, the introduction to nature has to be done in a safe environment to gain the child's trust, as well as an environment where the child gains a burning desire to learn. Not only does this improve the life of the child, but it helps reduce the destruction of the environment since they now are aware that they are connected with the earth, and destroying it is destroying themselves. COTEF does a wonderful job of creating this environment so that anybody can meet Nature as a friend, and in the process teaches many skills usable in daily life as well as emergency situations. I have been teaching youth groups about nature and wilderness skills for about 12 years now, but when I took the training workshop (in 2008?) and then helped at a class , it changed my outlook and methods of teaching these skills!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Helping countless city kids "see" nature for the first time! Working with the great staff and volunteers has been pretty good too.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Real, down to earth, caring, trustworthy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the world 1 kid at a time! (who would then change their parents, and then their friends, and so on) It could also offer more Teacher Training Workshops at a cost more teachers could afford. The skills they use to teach are just as lacking.

Ways to make it better...

They were able to run more camps and give scholarships to more kids.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding, trained help

One thing I'd also say is that...

Support them with your time, money and prayers, they are doing a great work!

COTEF is a superb organization that provides a unique and vital curriculum to peopl of all ages from all walks of life. I once worked with COTEF on an event that connected over 300 kids from NYC public schools to nature in a fresh and exciting way in just one afternoon. Everyone associated with this organization is inspired and dedicated, and only good things can come from supporting them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The generosity, sincerity and dedication of its staff.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Always helpful, friendly, passionate and highly skilled. Not only professional educators, but artists, role models, and mentors.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Make an even more serious impact on the public consciousness and improve the chances of our species achieving a sustainable balance with the rest of life on this Earth.

Ways to make it better...

COTEF could have more programs, and a more sustained presence in the lives of children it reaches.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Communicating the unique and critcal value that its programming brings, and how it differs from traditional camp and outdoor activities.

One thing I'd also say is that...

COTEF is the least wasteful, most efficient, and most valuable non-profit organization I can imagine.

Through the past several years I have helped out with a number of programs run by Children of the Earth Foundation. I always come away from these programs amazed at how much difference can be made in a child's life in just one short weekend. Not only do the COTEF programs train skills that are universal to our pasts, they also share the philosophy of living in harmony with the earth. Their mission and vision are essential parts of their programs. The programs are a great way to share with your family and friends what it means to become a child of the earth.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing that there really is a way to change peoples feelings about the earth. To awaken that connection that is within all of use is amazing to watch.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

kind and considerate. All of the staff are the sort you want as close friends, as they really care what you say and do. Your ideas and opinions matter to them, and it shows in the attention they give.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

awaken the rest of the world to the wonders of the earth.

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to share with them. I hope to return and help in the future.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of financial support to share their programs in more locations. They could also use support from the public in educating teachers to help share the vision and mission around the world.

One thing I'd also say is that...

people fear what they do not understand, and destroy what they fear. Awakening and educating removes that fear and thus provides a way in which this earth may be saved for generations of the future.

I attended COTEF in highschool and it changed the way that I've viewed the outdoors forever. Not only that, but it also gave me the confidence to stand up for the environmental issues that I believe in and fight to protect the earth. I will continue to volunteer teaching programs with Cotef for as long as I'm needed!!
