The Center has been such an enriching experience for myself, my family and our community. The caliber of entertainment is exceptional. The range of genres is amazing, from Folk legends to Celtic superstars to local favorites...The Center offers it all. My brother lives in the Chicago area and is continuaaly amazed at the acts I see (and MEET!) at the Center- I mean ARLO GUTHRIE in Homer New York...TWICE!! Ina word- WOW!
Launching the Center, much like democracy, can be a messy and time-gulping preoccupation. But those of us in the whirlwind of policy-making, planning, dreaming (and, yes, sweeping the floors and taking out the trash) can stand amazed at what has been accomplished by so many volunteers in such a short period of time. In an economic climate during which we see the fall of many beloved arts institutions, the Center for the Arts has been able to schedule a mortgage burning party. We have had artists clamor to come back to us. We have had some of the world's premier performers tell us that there is nothing like a Center audience: the sound system, the intimate space, the warmth of the reception. Whoever suggested our first official slogan, "Dream...then make it happen," could not have envisioned the growth and the diversity of activities housed under our roof. Kudos to all who have made it happen and continue to make it happen for the enrichment of our children and our children's children.
The Center for the Arts has been very supportive of young talent in the community. The response from the administration towards our annual piano recital has been very encouraging. The facilities and grand piano are superb and the parents are grateful for the opportunity to have their children perform in a professional environment.
I *love* the Center for the Arts! They offer an incredible array of classes - everything from painting and other traditional arts to various styles of world dance and holistic healing. In addition to the wonderfully diverse classes, the Center features a constantly changing gallery of artwork and hosts many specialized art shows. They also bring world class entertainment to a warm and personal venue. Personally, one of my favorite things about the Center is the wonderful people who run it and they're dedication to art and culture.
It still amazes me that this relatively new Center for the Arts here in Homer is able to bring in such popular programs that draw people from all over Central New York. In my volunteer capacity for the Center, I have even met people from even as far away as England. The idea of having desserts and even wine also has great appeal I look forward to the date we have numbered seating instead of having to use "sticky notes" to secure seats. People don't seem to mind, however. Some users of the notes get pretty creative with their ID adventure.
The Center has been the single greatest gift to our community because of the incredible diversity of free programs offered, as well as the many musical and visual artist presentations offered to the public at very reasonable prices. Without the Homer Center for the Arts, our community would be the poorer for it, both culturally and financially.
Since opening several years ago I have found the Center to be excellent in every way possible to the community and Cortland County. It is beneficial in ways such as bringing people out to volunteer, see great events, shows, educational experiences and bringing the community people together for a good cause.
