The Center has been such an enriching experience for myself, my family and our community. The caliber of entertainment is exceptional. The range of genres is amazing, from Folk legends to Celtic superstars to local favorites...The Center offers it all. My brother lives in the Chicago area and is continuaaly amazed at the acts I see (and MEET!) at the Center- I mean ARLO GUTHRIE in Homer New York...TWICE!! Ina word- WOW!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The wonderful people I've encountered that share an appreciation for the Arts. It's something I look forward to every season and have never been disappointed. I've been educated on different musical genres and have discovered I like them all!

Launching the Center, much like democracy, can be a messy and time-gulping preoccupation. But those of us in the whirlwind of policy-making, planning, dreaming (and, yes, sweeping the floors and taking out the trash) can stand amazed at what has been accomplished by so many volunteers in such a short period of time. In an economic climate during which we see the fall of many beloved arts institutions, the Center for the Arts has been able to schedule a mortgage burning party. We have had artists clamor to come back to us. We have had some of the world's premier performers tell us that there is nothing like a Center audience: the sound system, the intimate space, the warmth of the reception. Whoever suggested our first official slogan, "Dream...then make it happen," could not have envisioned the growth and the diversity of activities housed under our roof. Kudos to all who have made it happen and continue to make it happen for the enrichment of our children and our children's children.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

planning the Paul Yaman First Steps Play Reading Series, thereby developing drafts of several scripts from budding playwrights.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being able to use not only my creative but my managerial skills, and especially being able to be part of something bigger than myself. Sense of community!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

warm, knowledgeable, helpful, creative, and committed.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

safely preserve the historic and architectural gems of our facility (stained glass windows, brick pointing) and launch even more audacious programming for the future.

Ways to make it better...

can continue to build a broader base of volunteers.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

burnout of volunteers and the local economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the Center has attracted faraway fans via online sources who have brought their travel and tourism dollars to Central New York. Our proudest accomplishment remains that no two audiences are the same and we don't draw on the "same old, same old" folks.

The Center for the Arts has been very supportive of young talent in the community. The response from the administration towards our annual piano recital has been very encouraging. The facilities and grand piano are superb and the parents are grateful for the opportunity to have their children perform in a professional environment.

I *love* the Center for the Arts! They offer an incredible array of classes - everything from painting and other traditional arts to various styles of world dance and holistic healing. In addition to the wonderfully diverse classes, the Center features a constantly changing gallery of artwork and hosts many specialized art shows. They also bring world class entertainment to a warm and personal venue. Personally, one of my favorite things about the Center is the wonderful people who run it and they're dedication to art and culture.

I've been to many wonderful performances at the Center. I've also taken (and taught) many classes there. I'm so grateful to have such a valuable resource in my area.

Everyone on staff and all the volunteers I've meet have been helpful, kind people that I'd be honored to call friends.

Ways to make it better...

I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience with the Center or any of it's staff. But, I imagine that more volunteers would always be appreciated.

It still amazes me that this relatively new Center for the Arts here in Homer is able to bring in such popular programs that draw people from all over Central New York. In my volunteer capacity for the Center, I have even met people from even as far away as England. The idea of having desserts and even wine also has great appeal I look forward to the date we have numbered seating instead of having to use "sticky notes" to secure seats. People don't seem to mind, however. Some users of the notes get pretty creative with their ID adventure.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It's great fun meeting people that are attending. The area people wait in is lively with music playing, people buying cookies or wine or coffee, and chatting with others. Volunteers bustle around doing their assignments; often the art gallery is open too.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly and outgoing.

The Center has been the single greatest gift to our community because of the incredible diversity of free programs offered, as well as the many musical and visual artist presentations offered to the public at very reasonable prices. Without the Homer Center for the Arts, our community would be the poorer for it, both culturally and financially.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the many art exhibits and community gatherings it offers. The programs have brought together neighbors from all walks of life to share in a single events, or the many on-going activities the Center provides.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try and increase the energy efficiency of the over-all complex, thereby helping to reduce operating expenses.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the fact that my family and I have been exposed to artists, lecturers and educational programs that we otherwise would never have come into contact with.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. Most work on a strictly volunteer basis, while the two paid staff members work well above and beyond their paid number of hours.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

stop the physical deterioration of the physical structure, as well as offer more scholarships, children's programs and adult education classes that many would otherwise not be able to afford.

Ways to make it better...

we had more corporate, state and federal sponsorship. The physically maintain a Center of this size and continue to provide the programs it does, we need greater support on these levels.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial. We have many, many volunteers ready, able and willing to do the physical labor needed to keep the Center running. However, plumbing, heating, electrics and structural maintenance involve huge financial costs that are getting tougher to meet.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the arts, in all its forms, not only creates jobs, it also supports existing ones. A society is often judged by the quality of its art. Help the Homer Center for he Arts continue that worthy goal.

Since opening several years ago I have found the Center to be excellent in every way possible to the community and Cortland County. It is beneficial in ways such as bringing people out to volunteer, see great events, shows, educational experiences and bringing the community people together for a good cause.
