I think that CBD has more helpful impact on the environment per dollar spent than any environmental organization. This is why I have been a donor for over 3 years and will continue to be one. more

The Center is a lean and mean organization which is highly effective in protecting a wide variety of animals and plants from extinction. I recently increased my monthly contribution because I know that the amount l contribute will be well spent and not wasted on unnecessary overhead.

Although there are many worthwhile environmental organizations my income limits the amount which I can contribute to support them. Accordingly, the Center For Biological Diversity is one of only two which I support with monthly contributions. Here are three reasons why I prefer the work of the Center over other groups: The first is that I feel that their work involves species which are overlooked by other groups. The second is that I believe they are extremely effective in gaining protection for this myriad of species. And the third is that I find that the information which they provide in their email newsletters is not only very informative but also succinct and easy to follow.

The Great!

An incredibly effective organization which uses the courts to stop the decimation of endangered species and preservation of wilderness areas. Although a relatively small organization, they have had a number of big success stories, and know how to fight the system for the sake of our environment and its creatures.

The Center for Biological Diversity has found a unique and highly effective way to fight Global Warming and all other threats to animals, plants, and their habitats; they sue the entities who are breaking or not enforcing existing laws. From halting wolf killings in the Northwest to challenging the lax enforcement of the Endangered Species Act, the Center has jumped into the fight to save our environment with both feet, and doesn't pull any punches. Countless animals and plants owe their lives and habitats to the Center. I can't say enough good stuff about them.

Most effective organization around. Choose their battles well, and seem to be fighting the war on all fronts. Absolutely the most dedicated, intelligent and effective bunch of individuals I have encountered.

The only major environmental organization that gets it (albeit only partially) on the contribution of overpopulation to ecological damage. A couple of years ago, the CBD took the place in my small-time personal donation scheme of another purportedly environmental nonprofit that became a flaccid, compromising, sold-out grant grubber in order to pay for a bigger staff and office.

While other environmental organizations one by one resort to the "free gift" default in soliciting contributions, disregarding the material and national origin of these products, The Center for Biological Diversity just goes and does its job fighting on behalf of the lifeforms and life communities that are devastated by human short-sightedness, hubris and greed. We don't want Tote Bags or Umbrellas from China, we want Results in Court. Thank you, CBD.

I have given money to NWF, WWF, the Nature Conservancy, and other organizations for many years. But since I discovered the Center for Biological Diversity through an email forward from a friend, I have changed how I allocate my charity dollars, and I have attacked two of the above organizations for policies which are not in the spirit of environmental responsibility. Why? The Center directs its funds toward real action, not giving away calendars or cheap plastic trinkets ("free" "gifts") made in China. Not all environmental charities are guilty of this, but the Center also keeps un members informed of what they're doing more frequently than the other groups, and they do it all digitally so not even recycled paper is wasted on mailed begging missives. In this Second Great Depression I can't risk having my money thrown away on mass mailings which could easily have been emailed-- and I removed myself from the email lists of NWF and WWF because I couldn't stand their constant bombardment of "free" "gift" "offers", and when I wrote to complain about it, all I got was more offers, whereas an email from the Center is a report of what they did this week to make a difference.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

successful lawsuits that forced government environmental regulatory bodies to do their job the way they were supposed to do it in the first place.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to find a cost-effective way to increase exposure among members of other environmental organizations, not with the goal of taking them down, but of forcing them to improve the way they operate, because there are many fronts on which the battle for the environment must be fought, and the Center can't to it all. No one can.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

no waste, just results.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

(no applicable)

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

start or expand an educational wing so that the industry leaders of tomorrow will have been environmentalists since childhood, and the work the Center is doing now will be ingrained in the behaviors of those controlling the offending industries themselves, and more money could be given to things like the Arts and other institutions that define what makes us human.

Ways to make it better...

I had the time to be a volunteer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the strength of the lobbies of the industries that still seem not to care whether the planet is healthy or not; the apathy of the general public; the current glut of competing environmental charities.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I wish Joe Sixpack/ the Plumber could be made to care about his own backyard, past how high his grass is.

The Center for Biological Diversity has done an outstanding job with helping Wildlife. They address the root of the problem by promoting "Endangered Species Condoms" and urging people to have fewer children. The Center aggresively fights for the welfare of wildlife, and wild lands by filing numerous lawsuits to protect the Ecosystem. The Center holds politicians responsible for their choices in regards to the Environment. Some groups claim to be for the environment, but they send all kinds of junk mail, and urge you to buy stuffed animal toys throught the mail, which is hypocritical. The Center for Biological Diversity corresponds through E-mail, and never compromises their principles of protecting all species of Wildlife. They even devote the same amount of attention towards animals such as bats and snails that more majestic animals such as polar bears normally receive.

I found the Center for Biological Diversity earlier this year and since then I always look forward to communications from them. Their newsletters and facebook postings are consistently informative and rarely reprints of headline news. They keep me well-informed and excited about the progress that can be made environmentally with focus, strategic effort and care.

I first heard about CBD in the summer of 2010 in a NYT article about the Gulf BP Oil spill. They were suing the govt to do something about it. I was like this group has balls. I started looking them up online. I said I want to be a member. I usually have 5 nonprofit groups I am a member of per year all wildlife or environmental or animal rights groups. This nonprofit is not kowtowing to the government, not pandering. They stand up and hold government accountable to wildlife. It's really a highly effective organization. I am proud to be a member my third year now. I urge you to join this group today. Just do a little bit of research. They are very effective as a voice for wild america and wildlife. CBD take action. They don't just sit around moaning about things. Their FB page is awesome too. I got a friend to join too and he has never joined any nonprofit before because of their work to save wolves in the wild.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Helping endangered species and threatened wolf populations. Helping the Gulf of Mexico coastal marine mammals, birds, wildlife survive.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

work to make it increase its membership base so even more people know about its work to help wildlife.

Gulf Oil BP spill lawsuit against federal government to take action.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

credit card via website

What would you tell others about this organization?

Join them. CBD is highly effective organization that stands up for wildlife and wild places. They are not just a talk talk group. They do something and have shown to me they have impact to save wildlife in America. They also sue the government to take action and stop foot dragging. I love the message and the moxie this group has.
