Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animals, Biological & Life Sciences, Environment, Forest Conservation, Land Resources Conservation, Protection of Endangered Species

Mission: At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature;to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law, and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters, and climate that species need to survive. We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

Results: According to the LA Weekly, we're "pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the most effective conservation organization in the country."

Programs: Climate Law Institute, Endangered Species, Oceans, Public Lands, Urban Wildlands

After much disappointment in my research on other environmental organizations I almost gave up hope for the future of our planet until I found the CBD. They don't hold back and truly fight for our planet, the animals, and a greener future. Their success is astounding and I am very proud to donate my money towards an organiztion that I believe in. Keep up the amazing work CBD we appreciate all you do!

In my opinion, this agency is undertaking radically important work. They cover such a broad range of crucial topics related to our destruction of the environment-overpopulation, oil and gas pollution, species extinction etc. Their website is incredibly informative, keeping readers up to date on lawsuits and actions taken to stop boneheaded government decisions and to spur individuals to take action for the sake of the environment. They are very specific and the research is meticulous. A great organization and very necessary organization, in my opinion.

The most active and forward looking of the organizations whose goal is to save intact our planet. The Center is the first to recognize a potential problem or area of concern and to then study and publish a report.

The Center for Biological Diversity presents the best of ecological science and appropriate environmental activism. I've never seen a call to action from the Center that didn't merit a response and I support them with great enthusiasm.

The Center for Biological Diversity is an amazingly efficient and effective environmental organization. Their primary mission is to ensure that our government protects ecosystems and individual species according to existing laws. As an example, one of their cases led to the protection of vast swathes of desert riparian areas, which were being severely degraded by overgrazing. They carefully choose their battles and have an excellent track record of winning protections for the most vulnerable species.

No one does it better. Apparently the Center's staff works seven days a week protectiing endangered plants and animals. I love it! Most important of all is the focus. There's no hesitation or drawn out soul serching. They simply go to work and get the job done . . . if it is doable at all. When things don't go as planned they don't quit. From my experience no one at CBD spends time moping about setbacks. They roll up their sleeves and go back to work until the job of saving endangered species is won. We're lucky to have them.

A conservation organization that's not afraid to disrupt the status quo and not playing by the nonsense rules. We need people that don't get paid a hefty salary, that dare to speak the truth against the uselessness of the present regime instead of kowtowing to them. This is the organization that satisfies those requirements. So many so called conservation organizations pay over their CEOs too much money, take donations from big business, and too chummy with the politicians and deliver absolutely no results. We need more like the Center for Biological Diversity.

I have been consistently impressed by CBD's ability to produce positive results in regard to protecting endangered species and the habitats they need to survive. CBD's relentless advocacy has made me a consistent donor for more than ten years. I plan to support this organization well into the future. They are totally solid and committed to their mission. The point should not be lost that their work has massive benefits for humans as well.

This charity is one of the few that I count on to tell me what is happening in the world and then doing something about it. They follow through with updates and show what I can do to help. Simply the Best!
