This is a great organization - very focused and efficient, and very effective at achieving their aims. Their campaigns have ranged from those addressing the larger threats we face today (obvious example being the Deepwater Horizon well), to the focused and local, to the creative, such as distributing endangered species condoms! All around a terrific non-profit, and my favorite, as environmental organizations go.

I was introduced to the Center for Biological Diversity by my 12 year old son. He discovered the Center through his interest in environmental issues and a school project to participate in saving Nevada’s Amargosa toads. From there, his own independent research and his admiration of the Center’s work, which is so beautifully documented on their website, led him to initiate a project that would raise money for them. What so impresses me about this organization is that they understand the importance of supporting and nurturing the passions of children who are coming of age and who need a forum and a structure to help channel their not insignificant energy to fix what we are so dangerously close to destroying. The Center treated him with respect and kindness as he organized a benefit concert to raise money to aid in the Gulf disaster. They highlighted his efforts on their Activist Spotlight page and were always responsive and courteous in their communications with him. As I parent, I was apprehensive that his idealism and his fierce desire to find a way to do some good, to be effective in bringing about positive changes, would be thwarted by an encounter with an impersonal bureaucracy. In my mind, this would be the worst possible outcome for him and would have been a very sad omen for all of us who hope to stem the tide of species loss and environmental damage. Thanks to the Center, quite the opposite happened. His concert was a success, he raised well over $1,000 for the Center and, to use a bit of a worn phase –he feels empowered. What this world needs now, more than anything, is youth that feel empowered to do public good and I congratulate the Center for having the wisdom to see the long view.

The Center for Biological Diversity has moved to the top of my donations list. I used to donate, support GreenPeace and some other environmental groups but now only support CBD as I feel this group is actually accomplishing things. Also, I am so impressed and in awe of this organization as it is the only environmental group which actually takes issue with overpopulation. I agree with them that this is the root cause of most of our major problems on Earth--too many people. And no other environmental organization even dares to mention it. The Center For Biological Diversity stands bravely alone in addressing this cause. Kudos CBD!

I like this charity because they really go after offenders by filing lawsuites, etc. They seem to have a good team of people that know what they're doing, and they actually get positive changes made. I thoroughly support them.

I think this organization utilizes their money in an efficient way. I like that they are concerned not only with the larger species but smaller ones as well such as the kangaroo rat.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

use the funds more efficiently than others. They don't seem to waste money on a lot of mailings or many emails for that matter. They are on top of the environmental issues and have won many lawsuits on behalf of their cause.

I was introduced to CBD when they opened a branch office in Idyllwild. I followed their progress in the local paper, noting how uncomfortable the conservatives were that this organization was in their back yard. I've been to a fundraising concert, read the very professional and informative newsletters, sent email and letters in support of their campaigns, etc.

I am extremely happy to see the rate of success this organization has in winning challenges and help preserve such an array of life forms in this country. I enjoy receiving their informative e-mails and learning about all those amazing creatures that need my help. It gives me hope that future generations will inherit a better world because of this organization.

I learned of the Center for Biological Diversity while researching for a course in graduate school. From that information, plus my member experience the past 2-3 years, I find that the Center for Biological Diversity does more for the health of Life on Earth (including homo sapiens) than any other environmental/ecological organization I have run across in 43 years of activism.

My "meeting" has been via e-mail information. Again, this organization is highly effective, focused, efficient.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the perception and educate 20% of the American public such as to reach a critical mass to actually begin to save and repair the crucial ecosystems of the U.S. We could really become what we should be--an ethical example to other countries.

Thanks CDB for helping me back long ago when I was seeking endangered species listing for Percina Nasuta. It was the first time I had ever tried to preserve habitat for a little fish like that, and you multiplied your impact by encouraging me. Today I'm still doing things to help, and take comfort when I see headlines about preserving dragonfly habitat. Saving biodiversity, one species at a time. Its a daunting task, but you never give up.

we'd all had unlimited resources. Or at least more money. More staffing. More time. More policy support.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

external policy barriers due to libertarian views based on a romantic notion that we still have unlimited frontiers and infinite opportunities to make a comeback from mistakes if we wait or don't 'fix things in a big way.'

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thanks CBD. I wish I had a lot of money to help you in your excellent, important, essential, world-changing work.
