Very useful weekly newsletter with short summaries and links to longer stories. Always some fun news at the end, such as this week's "spooky species of All Hallows' Eve". Also has frequent petitions to sign so people can do something about the problems they read about.

Thank goodness for the Center For Biological Diversity - they do an excellent job of keeping me informed of important issues, make it easy for my voice to be heard and always go above and beyond to fight for injustice of those with no voice - I've never once received an email that I felt was an unimportant issue

The Center for Biological Diversity is quite simply the best! They sue the feds to get them to enforce the laws that are already on the books, and in so doing, they protect endangered species from extinction, conserve thousands of acres of habitat, reduce climate change and make our planet more livable for humans. They care about all creatures large and small, and plants too. Whether it's polar bears, jaguars, coral reefs, or unarmored threespine sticklebacks (yep, that's one of 'em), the Center is on the case. They care much more about protecting the earth than making money, and that's why I like giving them mine. They're also the only major environmental organization gutsy enough to tackle overpopulation issues. With more than 7 billion people on the planet, this is a growing catastrophe that gets very little news coverage because it is controversial. The CBD does us proud, and deserves the "top-rated" award.

The Center for Biological Diversity does a heroic job of challenging federal agencies that fail to do their job in protecting our environment, particularly in addressing the urgent need to save species from extinction. They go to bat for species large and small--whether "sexy" polar bears or tiny butterflies (they also go to bat for bats). Their lawsuits have an unprecedented rate of success (more than 90%), and they are absolute bulldogs in achieving their goals. They also tackle the enormous issue of global warming, fighting to promote the EPA's ability to use the Clean Air Act to help save our planet from devastation.
They are gutsy and creative in their approach, addressing overpopulation by passing out tens of thousands of condoms with endangered species on them (thus making the connection between too many people and imperiled species). They are thrifty and savvy and they use contributions wisely and well. Their weekly e-newsletter (Endangered Earth) gives you the scoop on how much they're accomplishing in a wonderfully informative way. It helps you to appreciate the amazing diversity on our planet, and what a loss it would be (and is) to lose any of it. CBD ranks first place for my environmental dollars.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
keeping up with their efforts to save wolves, polar bears and other endangered species. It's uplifting to follow their successes and heartbreaking to experience the failures (like the many species that remain on the "candidate list" for decades, while some of them become extinct).
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
give them the big bucks they need to make their good work even more effective.
We donate monthly to CBD because they walk the talk. Their influence in the legal arena is second to none. They aren't afraid to take on the big boys, or the big issues such as human overpopulation. The latest example is their opposition to the Newhall Ranch development in SoCal. They fought it even when most other environmental groups had caved, but have been vindicated by the courts. The development is now at a standstill. Thank you, CBD.

CBD is hands down the best bang for your environmental buck. They quietly go about the business of calling truth to power, and they are very successful. They don't waste a lot of money on fancy mailers or mahogany office furniture. They're the major beneficiary in our wills because they get the job done. When other enviro groups are afraid to buck the tide, CBD will be jumping right in.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
save huge amounts of habitat for many, many animals.

I first became interested with the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) while I was in college, about 3 years ago. I initially enjoyed reading their updates about POSITIVE environmental victories. Unsurprisingly, many of these victories could be attributed (in large part) to the efforts of CBD. They operate with passion and efficiency in a system I'm sure they (like many) would love to see changed. The greatest thing about the CBD is their work yields results and changes frequently increasing the amount of protected land for our beloved wildlife. Dedicated to Biological Diversity, I have enjoyed their events that I attended. They gave me free condoms to pass out at my college as part of their "hump smarter" campaign, designed to raise awareness about human overpopulation. Now that I'm making money, I'll probably make some donations to them too because their most important work involves hiring the best lawyers. Which is not cheap. CBD is by far my favorite non-profit out there. Sign up for their newsletter and you'll be uplifted about the changes you can make for the future of our widlife, and ourselves.

I belong to a number of environmental organizations, and receive their emails.. When I open the emails from the Center for Biological Diversity I always see the most positive, forward thinking actions, actions which make a huge difference. I am stunned each time by the contents of the emails. They truly act on their beliefs, strategically making the best cases for our natural world. If I had only one environmental group to support, it would be this one. Moreover, I learned about their work on Culebra, PR, when I stumbled upon a study they were doing for their much endangered tropical corals. Their persistence and wisdom, scientific research and results are of the highest caliber.

When I was on Culebra PR I met members of the Center for Biological Diversity who were actively assisting a local non-profit on the Island, CORALations. Their expertise and willingness to help went beyond the call in assisting this small island's fight to maintain its biodiversity and the corals which are so endangered.
As a professional with experience in land protection, I was highly impressed with this organization and its on the ground staff.

The Center For Biological Diversity is an organization that truely believes in what they do. They continue to fight for and defend all wild life, plants, fish and whatever else makes up the great environment. They are firm believers in preserving this beautiful world and all its creatures for many generations to come. They are definitely the best at what they do!!!

For years I have been reading the news from the Center for Biological Diversity and responding as well as I was able--sending small donations and signing petitions. When an opportunity to volunteer in their San Francisco office came along, I jumped at it. It is so satisfying to see up close how hard working and upbeat this group of people is, how well they work together and how they are on top of so many issues, day to day.

An organization that truly cares about what they say they do; The Center for Biological Diversity not only lobbies for wildlife and the environment - fighting against unjust policies as they arise - but also follows up on the current and future status of wildlife, wild areas, and the people that protect them, ensuring no further attacks. In the cases of future threats on saved species or areas, The Center for Biological Diversity is right there, rallying forces to save the world!
