Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animal Services, Animals

Mission: The Cat Network is a grass-roots organization with over 2500 volunteer and donor members. Its members have trapped, sterilized and vaccinated against rabies over 51,000 stray and abandoned cats since its inception in December, 1995. It is our mission to make everyone aware of this huge community problem and to be proactive in fighting it by spaying and neutering pets and strays, alike. We encourage the public to adopt stray and abandoned cats as indoor-only pets and practice responsible ownership. We also mediate with planned communities and multi-family developments to enact TNR (trap/neuter/release) efforts rather than extermination of stray cats on their properties. Through combined efforts with other local animal agencies we are working to make South Florida a No-Kill community. We also cooperate with and assist other local governmental agencies in animal hoarder situations.

Results: Our members have trapped and sterilized over 51,000 stray and abandoned cats and have adopted out over 7,000 cats since our inception in December of 1995.

Target demographics: Stray and feral cats.

Geographic areas served: South Florida

Programs: The Cat Network maintains several programs to provide a better life for stray and abandoned cats. Our Spay/Neuter Program is supported by over 40 local area veterinary clinics, and provides low cost sterilization and vaccination. Our Adoption Referral Program provides a much needed outlet for adopting stray and abandoned cats. Our Special Needs Program financially assists members seeking medical attention for injured and ill cats that they have rescued.

Awesome service ! I've had as many as 20 cats and abandoned kittens spayed or neutered using the Meow Mobile or the low cost certificates. This is an absolute Godsend ! I will continue to use and recommend to everyone , I can't thank them enough for their help

First, my own cat, MaddieCat was adopted from this organization. She was one of 3 black feral kittens that a member rescued and fostered till they all had homes.
Second, because they have (pressured and) partnered with Miami Dade Animal Services, they were able to convince the county commissioners to change it to a no kill shelter and which now offers FREE spaying and neutering of stray feral cats. They now support TNR efforts.
I used this service myself this January 2015. I trapped and fixed 6 neighborhood cats that I sometimes feed. I borrowed a drop trap and regular trap from the CatNetwork to take them to Animal Services. Thank Goodness for this organization for helping cats.

The CATNETWORK has worked to reduce the feral cat population with TNR. they have rescued and found homes for thousand of the abandon cats left at our Animal Services (the pound), shopping centers, empty lots etc. I love the idea of the MEOW MOBILE. It is a specially outfitted van that is a clinic. This enables them to go into many different neighborhoods to provide the low cost spay/neuter services, where vet service may not be in existance. Additonally, the weekend shows which they bring cats to be adopted helped me to adopt my current black cat. Both the Animal Shelter and Our local no kill shelter are both in the north end of our county only.We are in pet food stores on Miami Beach, and the western and southern areas or our large county.

It was through the Cat Network that I got into fostering kittens. Now I have been fostering for a couple years now and absolutely love it. The Cat Network also set up the transport of the kittens up to Maryland when they go through their "kitten shortage" up to a no-kill non profit to help them find loving homes.

The Cat Network does everything they can to help out the cats and kittens of Miami. I helped out as a foster mom when they worked out in conjunction with another organization to watch kittens before they went on a transport up to their new homes. They deserve all the support they can get, because they are truly looking out for the cats!

The Cat Network has been a great resource for the community in many facets, from the Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) efforts to assisting individuals with pet adoptions. I first found them when I need assistance with some outdoor cats at my warehouse and they were very informative an pointed me in the right direction. They are a fantastic organization.

Cat Network has been extremely helpful in getting our Hammocks Community Association (oversees homes of approximately 15,000 residents) to approve cat Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) as the humane way to help control the cat population. They played an important role in educating the Board of Directors and residents of the benefits of TNR. They have also lent their own resources (traps, advice & volunteers) and even brought their mobile veterinary clinic to do surgerieis in our area. Their low cost spay/neuter program and all the other benefits of being part of Cat Network, has made the implementation of TNR of our free roaming cats, successful in our neighborhoods of the Hammocks area, located in Miami, Florida.

The cat network has done so much here in Miami dade. The pound here had been horrific 25-30 rears ago. Cat Network did the jobs that the county wouldn't. Like education, TNR, help orphans and worked with the pound to find homes (with other groups). I was trying to do these things alone, and could help and place a number of them. When CN was formed they did it on a very needed large scale. The Meow Mobile has been incredible. They do a terrific service to so many kitties that would not be here either in loving homes or in a cared for colony. My heart is right there with them. Kudos to CN!!!

As a pre-vet student, I volunteered with the Cat Network helping to provide cheap spay/neuter surgeries for pets and feral cats. Many people do not understand the importance of spaying and neutering animals. It helps to control the animal population so that thousands of cats and dogs don't need to be euthanized each year. The people I worked with while volunteering work very hard and deserve a lot of recognition. If more people put their time and effort into great causes like this the world would be a better place.
