Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue in partnership with two other rescue groups descended upon a low-end auction on Saturday evening in Southern California. Every horse that went through the auction was saved, not one was left behind. They even saved a pregnant mare from a drunk man in the parking lot who had arrived too late for the auction. The killer buyers and such as those did not know what had hit them as they left the auction with empty trailers. What a wonderful achievement, made a little more special so close to Christmas. Kudos to you Castleton Ranch.

My friend and I recently visited Castleton's Ranch in Valley Center and without a doubt, it is the most impressive rescue ranch that we had ever visited, and I have visited quite a few. The paddocks are large, the ranch is very clean all of the horses were in wonderful condition and looked very happy. The staff were very helpful showing us around and the ranch itself is beautiful. I have been a donor for some time now and I will continue to be in the future. Keep up the good work Castleton Ranch.

I know that many, many horses have been abandoned, neglected, and abused. The situation has gotten worse with the recession. Unfortunately, many people thoughtlessly acquire horses without the means or dedication to care for them. Thus the rescues are left to try to help.

I believe many rescues and sanctuaries need better fund raisers. Their mailings have become more irritating to the recipients than helpful to the rescues. The letters are boilerplates that follow the same pattern for most sanctuaries and probably cost a lot. However, without the fundraisers, most people would not know of the rescues or their work.

Personally, I check the cause and if it looks legitimate in helping the animals victimized by people, I try to overlook the fundraising issues and contribute.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would try to get a better way of fundraising. It looks as if most sanctuaries/rescues use the same organization or all the organizations use the same pattern of soliciting. It just begins to look phony, especially when you have multiple organizations seeking funding. I receive many mailings from numerous groups. Thus I sometimes feel solicitation fatigue and question if the money is being used well.
