Casa Myrna is a wonderful organization that provides critical services to victims of domestic violence throughout Massachusetts, including its 24 hour statewide SafeLink hotline. Its staff is dedicated and energetic in working to end domestic violence. Casa Myrna is led by a dynamic team of caring professionals and deserves the support of everyone in our community.

As New England’s leading provider of shelter and services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, Casa Myrna has changed the lives of thousands of women and children. As a funder, I am impressed by the organization's full menu of services for victims (counseling, legal assistance, housing, food, etc.) and also its educational work with teens to help end domestic violence in our comminities.

Casa Myrna has transformed my life and that of my children by helping me break the cycle of violence that has haunted my family for generations! They have been an instrumental source of support, empowerment and shelter when I most needed. My story is one of pain, courage and triumph…too long to share in this setting but I will briefly summarize it. I was seventeen in high school with a one year old daughter and son on the way and no safe place to go. I was turned away from other DV shelters because of my age, that’s when Casa Myrna Vazquez opened their doors to me. That day nineteen years ago I was born again and I've since lived everyday to the fullest for me and my children. I was given a second chance at life and I took it! Thank you Casa Myrna Vazquez for starting the cycle of healthy happy living that will continue for generations to come!

I have been a Board member at Casa Myrna for over three years and have known about the organization much longer. It is an incredible organization which helps women and child who have been affected by domestic violence. They have a 24 hour hotline, shelter services, legal services, counseling services, advocate services, education and prevention services as well as a media campaign which helps bring the issue of domestic violence out into the public. I am pediatrician and know how pervasive domestic violence is.

Without the services of Casa Myrna, many patients would be forced to stay in abusive situations and not be given the chance to start a better life. We have a partnership with Casa Myrna where I work with a domestic violence advocate. The services she provides to patients are invaluable and we are so grateful for this partnership. I have used the safelink hotline to get shelter services for my patients. Many patients live in Casa Myrna shelters where they are empowered to stay out of abusive relationships.

Domestic violence is an act of inflicting pain, whether physical or mental, on one or several people who are closest to us. The victims are infants, children, men, women, the elderly... There is no discrimination. The victims' fear of a new episode leaves them helpless and isolated. They "live" in a dark tunnel.
Casa Myrna and its outstanding, dedicated staff bring the light back into the lives of these women, young girls and children.

I have been a member of the Board of Directors of Casa Myrna for one year, and I am continually amazed at the life-transforming work that the group does. From the SafeLink 24 hour domestic violence hotline, to emergency shelters for women and families leaving situations of terrible abuse and violence, to ongoing educational and preventative efforts, this organization is doing incredibly vital work in the City of Boston. As an attorney who has had the privilege of representing survivors of domestic violence in obtaining restraining orders, I can attest to the strength and power that Casa Myrna provides to people who need assistance when leaving a terribly difficult, traumatizing situation. Casa Myrna fills that role. It is a true honor to play a very small part in the great work that they do for this community.

my work with survivors of domestic violence as a lawyer. In addition, given increasingly troubling cultural images and influences surrounding violence towards women, I believe that the work that Casa Myrna does is needed now more than ever.

My daughter volunteers on the board and has made me aware of the good works done by Casa Myrna. I am impressed with its length of success and the scope of the work for women and families in crisis. I especially like that they list the services provided to families for a certain dollar amount.
