I specially enjoyed how organized you were with the information and the informative handouts. I have been a trainer with Casa for the past four years, and can tell many stories of lives being changed, for children and for parents. This past semester, one of the classes I worked with was middle-school students who are at risk of not graduating high school. They reported a significant improvement on behaviors that relate to emotional intelligence, personal responsibility, and relationship skills following a 9-week SEL course.

I had the privilege of working for Casa for 11 years. I loved this job more than any other I have ever had and, as I get older, realize that I will be lucky to get even close to level of satisfaction I had helping children, teachers, parents, and community members in Arizona as a Casa employee during the rest of my professional life. Casa's programs, simply put, work. They are built on the principle of fostering healthy relationships and educating both youth and adults on the necessity of understanding how our actions affect one another. i cannot think of a better organization to support as they lead our city in the struggle to end abuse and relationship violence.

How does this organization compare with others in the same sector?

Very Well

How much of an impact do you think this organization has?

Life-changing

Will you recommend this organization to others?

As a Casa employee, I was able to visit literally hundreds, if not thousands, of classrooms over the 11 years I worked for Casa. With the POWER program (Positive Outcomes Within Every Relationship), Casa is able to 7th through 12th grade students an alternative to unhealthy and abusive relationships, as well as offer an incredible opportunity for an open, informed discussion about sexual violence and how to prevent it. This is a vital program and our children deserve to have the opportunity to learn from experts.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

in countless ways. One student wrote to me in a note after the POWER curriculum was shared in his class, "from now on, I will listen to my girlfriend." That has stuck with me for years and I will probably never forget it. Casa has a powerful message.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would ensure that all of the prevention programs Casa has to offer were funded for schools and community organizations all over the greater Phoenix area.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

helping the youth, parents, educators, and community members of greater Phoenix work together to make our city a safer place to live.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

amazing people with a wealth of talent, empathy, and compassion for children and adults from all walks of life.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do amazing things for the city, state, country and world. Casa has a unique and under-appreciated message to share with the world.

Ways to make it better...

funding would have remained at a level where I could have continued to work for the agency. I would still be working at Casa today if there were funds to pay my salary.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

a lack of funding and visibility within the community. Relationship violence, in all its forms, is a very difficult thing for people to talk about and Casa helps facilitate this conversation better than any agency in the country.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am very proud of the years I worked for Casa and feel very fortunate to have worked with so many amazing people over those years.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

Tom - YOur comments break my heart actually! You are one of the most talented teachers of middle school and high school students I have ever experienced in my 30 years working with teens. Greatest loss to AZ and to our nation was when the economy began to decline and Casa could no longer employ you full time. I will continue to try to figure out how we can get you back full time as the guy who rocks and literally changes teens lives before our eyes...a very rare but critical needed compenent.

CASA has come to our school to present prevention programs. This has resulted in increased awareness of sexual abuse for parents, staff, and students. It has led to student disclosures which have enabled us to help these children receive the help they needed. It has taught students what to do in a situation that is threatening and helped them to understand their rights to personal safety and the importance of informing an adult of threatneing situations. I have also made referrals to CASA for many years for help to victims of sexual assault and abuse.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Talking with and working with students after they had the CASA presentations and also CASA one on one conversations.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

CASA has provided in class sex abuse prevention programs in our school numerous times over the years. These have been very thorough and well done. Teachers, students and parents have been very grateful with the information presented. It has proved to be invaluable in helping students address areas of concern. The presenters are always available to any student who needs a follow up conversation and there have been many. These have always been very beneficial to the child. It becomes clear that many of our children are carrying burdens no child should have to bear. These presentations have provided very important release for some of life's toughest issues. Of course the issue of prevention is always difficult to measure, but the students receive clear instructions on how to handle potentially abusive situations and are are taught that they have a right to stand up for themselves, how to do it and to not to keep such situations secret. This is of paramount importance as it is what allows abuse to continue and grow. Given the student response we have every time we have these presentations, it is clear how necessary they are. This an an organization of great importance to our community. They were here when on one else was there talking about the issues or helping victims. Their contribution to our community is immeasurable.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the school I work in. Their presentation has resulted in sex abuse disclosures that have resulted in children getting the help they need. It has also identifed children who previously had disclosed but had not received the help they needed.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand their services as more is needed in the way of prevention and treatment.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have over 30 years as a social worker and know what a great need there is in the area of sex abuse and knwoing CASA is there is such a benefit.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Were knowledgeable, helpful, caring and great.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make a major difference.

Ways to make it better...

They had more resources.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial

One thing I'd also say is that...

Our community needs this organization and it needs to expand in prevention and treatment resources.

I have heard about the wonderful work that this organization is able to accomplish in Phoenix. It is evident that all involved in this organization are helping to build a civil, caring society, where compassion reigns. However, every great, amazing organization needs someone at the helm who understands the needs of a community and searches for answers. Stephanie Orr is that person. As the leader, she helps instill in all of her staff that life is about continuous learning and modeling the compassionate life.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

learning about how schools have received the training and the children have learned new skills that have worked for them.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
