Cancer Schmancer Foundation

Rating: 4.92 stars   218 reviews

Issues: Cancer

Location: PO Box 2760 Reston VA 20195 USA

Mission: The Cancer Schmancer Movement is dedicated to saving women's lives through early detection of cancer. We are: • transforming women from patients into informed medical consumers • educating women on the importance and methods of early detection • shifting this nation’s priority from just looking for a cure, to prevention and early detection.
Target demographics: Women
Geographic areas served: National
Programs: EARLY DETECTION FRAN VAN PROGRAM - Cancer Schmancer has discovered that there are many existing cancer-screening services for low-income individuals, the uninsured and underinsured; however, many of them are struggling to reach the people they have committed to serve, particularly women, because they just don’t have the capacity to get the message out. This is where Cancer Schmancer can have the greatest impact. Because of our belief in collaboration to achieve a higher goal, we have built a model to partner with local, existing cancer screening services for women in need in order to reach and build capacity. (These partners are screening equipment transport vans, mobile cancer screening vans, or local clinics/hospitals, depending on the greatest need of each community.) As part of our capacity building, the Early Detection Fran Van program provides training to outreach volunteers who will help educate the communities and help women make and keep their screening appointments. This year, we are in the process of development and piloting this program in three cities, with an ultimate goal of development in cities across the US and eventually abroad. WE THE FUTURE - mobilizes the youth of this country to engage in community education and fundraising initiatives in order to support Cancer Schmancer’s programs and share the life-saving message of early detection and living healthily. www.CancerSchmancer.org/wethefuture

The Cancer Schmancer Foundation is the best organization around for promoting Women's Healthcare. Ms. Drescher encourages women to take responsibility for their health and to speak up regarding our care. We should all be very thankful to have Ms Drescher on our side and leading the way for better healthcare.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping my friends and especially my family members become more aware of the need to fight for better healthcare and in getting early detection.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

What it has taught me & family and friends about taking responsibility for our healthcare.

This is a great organization founded by a great woman. There is a long history of cancer in my family, and I feel that Cancer Schmancer has helped me better understand what I should and need to be doing in order to help myself. Not only do the people involved in CS talk to people about making a change, they try to make the change themselves by appealing to lawmakers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

congress, twitter, her book, doctors offices.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

save 10 million lives

Ways to make it better...

it could be international

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

publicity. Hardly mentioned anywhere, and you really need to dig to find it. It does GREAT work and more people really need to hear about it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I was first introduced to Cancer Schmancer over 2 yrs ago when I thought I had ovarian cancer. I was searching for answers and someone else who had gone through cancer. I found Cancer Schmancer and all their articles, helpful advice and Fran Drescher's active role in congress and in the media to be wonderful and inspiring. I lost two aunts to cancer because they waited too long to get tested or instead of getting a second opinion believed their doctor's first answer. Finding out later that one of my aunts could have beat cancer had she just followed her gut instinct and got a second opinion made her death even more heartbreaking. Thank you to Fran Drescher and all the people who work with Cancer Schmancer for spreading the word and making it more dominant in people's mind to battle it in Stage One.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping people become more aware of getting diagnoised in Stage One.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people who help this organization are helpful, friendly and always there to help you with any questions you have.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

wonderful, friendly and very helpful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help save the world! Honestly we could battle cancer and get more people to trust their own gut instead of their doctor's opinion.

since I'm not living in the US, I wouldn't have known about the foundation, if I hadn't been a fan of "the nanny", miss fran drescher. I loved her book "Cancer Schmancer" and it's great that she founded the "Cancer Schmancer" movement. my grandmother died of ovarian cancer because it was diagnosed to late and I think it's very important for celebrities to work for/ with such great foundations.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that it's a very human, very open way to deal with cancer

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

act world-wide (at least, I'd love that!)

Ways to make it better...

I wasn't living outside the US, since you don't hear anything about the organization in Germany

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

Cancer Schmancer is a great organization that promotes awareness and with Fran Drescher as spokeperson helps keep the group in the spotlight. Fran is very passionate about finding a cure, as we all are, but her fight is peronal and it shows.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

media reports from all overthe U.S.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would work at bringing it to more countries outside the U.S.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that all those involved can really feel a sense of pride in knowing thier efforts are helping those in need.

Ways to make it better...

we could help bring this group to Canada

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

Their Dedication to helping things become a reality through legislation is amazing. Programs such as The Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act would still be a dream to some folks if not for the tireless efforts of the group of dedicated Staffers and Volunteers at Cancer Schmancer.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Twitter, Cancer Schmancer, Their Walks to Raise Money their spirit, heart & Dedication transcends everything in the everyday population

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The everyday updates even if by e-mail or twitter they are personal and I can feel them

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Amazing, smart, kind, caring & wonderful

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

the most amazing gift of all LIFE through research, legislation and education

I have learned SO much through their website. It has also helped me to convey the importance of anual screening to my sisters-in-law. What anincredible source of information!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

getting my sisters-in-law to take their feminine health much more seriuosly than they have in the past.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

keep it just as it is.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

it is VERY informative without all the medical mumbo-jumbo!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I have not mt the staff, butgreatly admire Ms. Drescher!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

radically change the lives of MANY women

Ways to make it better...

they keep doing exactly what they are doing!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

future funding in our sinking economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

if more people were as devoted as Ms. Drescher is the world would be a much better (and healthier) place to live!

I think this is an awesome organization because it is so real and a friend of mine found out that she had precancerous cells on her cervix about a year ago. She wouldn't have pushed about testing if she had not found out what tests to ask for without cancer schmancers site.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping women to find out more about their bodies and to be more adament about tests when something is wrong.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do exactly the same

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning about female cancers

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I have not met anyone from here

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help more women

Ways to make it better...

I have never personally had experienc

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

getting the funds they truly need to help the women they so deeply care about

One thing I'd also say is that...

please help by sending donations
