As a woman, I support Cancer Schmancer. Someone had to bring awareness to women's cancers symptoms, Fran Drescher and Cancer Schmancer did. Finally the message has been spread in America that our body speaks and we need to listen to it. The message should cross the ocean now, too many women still don't know. Cancer Schmancer's mission has just began.

"I think Cancer Shmancer is an excellent charity that I wish to see in Massachusetts. It is vital to getting the word out to everyone that early detection is our biggest weapon against cancer. As a mother that just found out that my husband is a carrier of the brca 1 and my two daughters might have it and have to be tested and facing if they have it that there might be a problem with furture health insurance. All this is so important. So much more is needed....
Thank you Fran for all that you are doing for all women

I think Cancer Shmancer is an excellent charity and is vital to getting the word out to EVERYONE that early detection is our biggest weapon against cancer. As a woman, as a mother, and as a person who has LOTS of cancer is her family, it is nice to know that there is a place I can go for help, advice, to share my story, or to just bond with other women (and men) who may be experiencing the same things I am. I think Fran is an amazing woman who has bravely brought this important topic to everyone.

I ran across the website for Cancer Schmancer when I was researching and trying to find information about uterine cancer. I was looking for both medical information and leads for programs that could possibly help with medical bills.

There don't seem to be many organizations that speak to
the issue of uterine cancer, and it's good to see that someone is out there working to educate the public about what to look for.

There are currently no financial assistance programs for women who have uterine cancer; in making community leaders and lawmakers more aware, perhaps this will change. Why should women have to wait until the cancer has progressed in order to receive assistance?

Include a financial assistance program to help people that are unable to pay medical bills and/or living expenses.

Nothing is as important as Health! Nothing is more important than using all necessary means of prevention. And this is actually a topic that should concern us all! Cancer Schmancer gives a profound insight and answers our questions. It makes us aware and at the same time helps to take away our ignorance. It also supports us in dealing with our fear. Thank you Cancer Schmancer.

Fran and Cancer Schmancer has opened my eyes as to the importance of early detection. The desire to help those women who do not otherwise have the means to obtain the necessary screenings is an awesome undertaking. I have given financial support to Cancer Schmancer and will continue to do so. I have also obtained their booklet and CD's and am putting them out in my health club. I am working with my health club to try and put together a fund raiser and hope to have news for the organization soon. The people at Cancer Schmancer care and are striving to help all women to detect this horrible disease in it's earliest stage

I would have the screenings more often in more states. There are other states beside California and New York with women who need help. That of course means more money is needed. Promote the organization state by state. National exposure is good but bringing it home to each state would be better. I would be over joyed to help.

My experience is through self-examination of my breasts. In the past few years, I have found two lumps on my right side. The first lump, in 2008, was deeply embedded in the tissue of my breast and I just had a mammogram, as I do every annually. Not being a person to panic, but also not an idiot, I saw my doctor a few days later who confirmed that it was in fact a lump; he sent me for an ultrasound because he could not understand why it was not on my mammogram either.

The woman who did my ultrasound could not detect the lump with the machine, although she could feel it, sounds strange, I know. The next stop was a surgeon, who spent two minutes with me and said it is a lump and I will remove it next week, see you then. The lump was a benign cyst, hurray!

On January 10, 2011, I found another lump on my right side, only under my arm and felt the same as the last one. I went to my doctor, he told me to have it removed, and I suggested a doctor that removed some melanoma from the tip of my nose in 2009. I am not kidding, you cannot see where the cancer was removed, and this doctor was so good.

The doctor that I saw is a reconstructive/plastic surgeon that took care of my nose, did it in his office, so I asked him to consider removing my cyst in his office with a local anesthetic. He agreed to do it with the condition that if the cyst were attached to anything bigger” he would sew me up and we would go to the hospital; I agreed.

On the day of my surgery, I was a bit nervous, of course, but at ease because I knew my doctor and trust him, and the .5 mg of xanax did not hurt either. I entered his office at 1:15 and was immediately escorted into the examination room. The nurse had the trays of instruments set up and ready for the doctor to begin and music that I liked was playing. My doctor is young so he had on old-time rock and roll, how cool is that? I was numb within a few minutes and he began cutting, I did not feel anything the entire time! It was amazing, I laughed with him and his nurse, then before I knew it I was back in the car, and on my way home and it was only 2:00. An amazingly good story, but wait it gets better.

One week later, I went back for a wound check and to get the biopsy results and they were negative. It was such a happy day, I am healing just fine and the sky was blue. The point of my story is that I found two benign lumps through self-examination, my relatives were not so lucky. I am the oldest woman left in my family, and only 53 years-old. Everyone before me has died from breast, cancer. I am an advocate of all women to examine themselves every single month, in the shower and lying down flat on their backs. No excuses or forgetfulness because it just might cost you your life!

I don’t have a story to tell and thank goodness I don’t. Thanks to the Cancer Schmancer Foundation I can continue to gain knowledge about cancer and possible prevention tips that could save my life.

An example of how this foundation has helped me is that I recently found out
that BPA’s found in certain plastics and metal containers can be a contributing factor to reproductive and developmental issues.

One could argue that this information is all over the internet and all you have to do is research it, but, I wouldn’t have thought to research it, so, the only reason I have this information is because Cancer Schmancer thought of it for me/the subscriber and brought it directly to me via their emails. As a result I am now replacing certain plastic products with a safer product and am cautious when using the ones I’ve chosen to keep.

Additionally, the Cancer Schmancer Foundation’s primary goal is to educate and prevent. Other Foundations tend to raise and contribute money towards a cure. I think this is great too, but, given the choice I focus on preventing illnesses.

This organization is indeed blessed in so many ways. I have learned that I'm not alone and to listen to my body more. In addition to taking a larger and more pro-active role in my health and well being. Initially, I bought "Cancer Schmancer" for my mom because she was having severe pains before, during and after her period. After years of suffering and going to numerous doctors that just told her it was fibroids and/or early menopause. Finally we moved and she saw this wonderful gynecologist and it turned out that she had a radiply growing tumor on her ovary in addition to adhesions from a proir surgery years ago. The tumor went from 4cm to 7cm in less than one month. Thank God it was benign, but she had to have a total hysterectomy. With my mom's experience, I vowed not to keep silent and suffer. She hid it from us, so that we won't be worried. On August 4th, 2009, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, but I was completely asymptomatic, the nodules were found while having an MRI of my neck for something else. Withn 2 days of diagnosis, I had a total thryoidectomy. The shock didn't wear off until a week after the surgery and I cried for 4 plus hours straight. I reread Cancer Schmancer and it was then I took more serious note of cancerschmancer.org. I began to read other women's stories and fully understood that I was not alone. I never even knew thyroid cancer existed. Ms Drescher's "openness" about her life and the unconditional support of my family and friends helped me to understand that I should not walk alone, open up and let the people around me, help me. I've always been the helper and the one to stay strong. I had to learn to let go and be helped. Now, I've been having my own gynecological issues and I've learned to not just take my doctors' words, do my own research and take control; they really don't always have the answers. It is true, the best gifts do come in the ugliest of packages. I didn't know I had the courage to fight to be well and make my recovery faster than most. Thank you Cancer Schmancer! I know I went off tangent, but to conclude, this site makes it easy to understand what I'm going through, it's easy to navigate and I feel comfortable reading the information. Ms Drescher, thank you for thinking about all those women who can't afford the simple screening tests and saving so many lives. Most important too, teaching them to "open a mouth!" If my dad didn't push my mom to get checked, I shudder to think of what might have been. i am truly blessed with the graces that I have been given and I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason! I bought "Cancer Schmancer" in 2003 for my mom and it has helped me more than you know. Your organization continues to help many, believe me, I have referred many to your website.

I became more aware of what is happening around me. In as much as I am empathetic, I guess I took my gift of life for granted. through cancer schmancer, I stopped to "smell the roses" truly take in a beautiful sunset. Most important, being thankful!
