I've been involved with Cancer for College for nearly 10 years now. The work they do to help cancer survivors realize their dream of a college education is inspiring. So many families are destroyed financially by cancer leaving few financial resources for things like college. This group helps make those dreams a reality. So proud to support their mission.
I was invited to volunteer at my first Cancer for College fundraising event almost 2 years ago. I can not begin to express how honored I am to have had the opportunity to lend a hand to the amazing people who are giving so much to young people fighting for their lives through their battle with cancer. Everyone involved with Cancer for College is kind, caring, and has the biggest heart. All of the events they put on are nothing less that fabulous and their scholarship recipients are inspirational. I will gladly continue to support this wonderful charity as long as they will have me back!
I first heard about Cancer for College when my sister, Ashley was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer for the second time. I was a senior in high school getting ready to graduate when my family received the devastating news that Ashley's cancer had returned. Luckily the cancer did not spread so chemotherapy was not needed. Due to the immediate need to remove her tumor, Ashley was unable to attend my high school graduation. Being only two years apart in age, we are very close so this event was very difficult for her to miss. While recovering from the cancer Ashley received the letter from CFC awarding her a perpetual $4,000. This letter could not have come at a better time. Just when I thought nothing could make Ashley feel better, I was proved wrong. Receiving this scholarship put such joy in her eyes and helped her mentally recover so much faster. Since Ashley received this scholarship I have become a huge supporter of CFC. I try to volunteer for as many events as I can. They are always so much fun, I have even had friends ask if they could come volunteer with me. Also, I could not rave more about Craig, Stacy, Greg, and all the other staff at CFC. They are some of the most down to earth, kind-hearted people I have ever met. Not only am I thankful for what CFC has done for my sister, but this organization has also helped me find my passion. I have always wanted to be a nurse, but at first I did not know what specialty I wanted to go into. Through not only knowing Ashley's experience but hearing all of the other CFC scholarship recipients stories of battling cancer, I have chosen to specialize in oncology. I will be graduating from nursing school in May with the goal of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse. Thank you Cancer for College for helping me find my dream.
