Put simply, Camp Horizon changes lives. It seems to be the nature of Camp Horizon--all who get close to it are profoundly impacted in a positive way; campers, volunteers, staff, donors, sponsors, allies, etc. I have been a part of the Camp family for five years now, and it was after the very first event that I knew (and said outloud to my dear friend, Tara) that I would be in for life. It's just one of those kinds of organizations. And it's this lasting impact that plays such a remarkable role in the lives of the children and families it serves. People who involve themselve with Camp Horizon get sucked into the swirling vortex of love and compassion and are indelibly moved by it. And, if you'd like, that can be a challenge to you, reader, to see what your experience of supporting Camp Horizon would be like. I am blessed and privileged to know such a pure place in a world that can sometimes be so muddled, and it's an honor to spread it's good name. Thank you Camp!

Camp Horizon is an intentional program designed to promote the self worth and self efficacy of every child who attends. I have had professional experiences in both working for DFCS as a case manager and currently as a psychotherapist providing mental health counseling to children and families. In both roles, I have been impressed by the impact that Camp Horizon has on every child who attends. This impact has spread into the families of these children as they come home after an event and share their experience and lessons learned. Foster mothers have provided feedback that their foster children have come home "a different child" after attending summer camp with Camp Horizon.

Working with troubled children daily allows me to see the long term effects of positive self image and unconditional support-Camp Horizon provides both of these to their campers. The curriculum is designed to build the self esteem of each child while the counselors serve as support systems for these children. For every child, regardless of their background, culture, socioeconomic status, they need to feel capable, lovable, and resilient. The magic of Camp Horizon revolves around providing these experiences to each child-teaching them skills so they learn their capabilities, providing appropriate and consistent love and support, and teaching them about their resiliency. These are just some of the many benefits to these children who attend camp.

Both professionally and personally, I feel that Camp Horizon truly makes a difference for each person who is a part of it. Summer Camp is a theraputic experience for these deserving children and young adults.

I was initially introduced to Camp Horizon through my work as a youth development and social work professional, and began volunteering in 2004. My volunteer experience over the past 8 years has given me behind the scenes access to the heart and professionalism of this organization, its staff, board, and volunteers. It is easy to see upon a visit to Summer Camp or by volunteering to assist at Outings and events, how much painstaking care goes into quality program design and volunteer training. Even more important, the number of campers turned volunteers indicate the sheer power of this program and ability to reach children and youth when and where they need it most. I'm proud to be a volunteer and donor of Camp Horizon.
