CAMBA and its unwavering commitment to help unprivileged communities is amazing! I won't hesitate to recommend this organization out there!

Review from Guidestar

CAMBA is among the best social service agencies in New York at developing creative, superior programs with government grant and contract funding. The professional staff is skilled and dedicated to serving its clients. They take a comprehensive approach and work to mobilize multiple programs to address all the barriers faced by their clients. I hate to think about what Brooklyn would be like without CAMBA

CAMBA is a nonprofit organization which cares for the people whom they serve. They have many programs in place to help all individuals and their personal need with a goal of independent living. CAMBA is one of the best nonprofit organizations I have seen this far.

I have worked with numerous non-profits, but none have matched CAMBA consistent commitment to the community it aims to serve. CAMBA's personnel infrastructure is solid, and begins at the top - with the current Executive Director being the one who wrote the original grant that started CAMBA over 30 years ago. The programs and services offered have organically evolved as the needs of the community has evolved.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

observing parents utilizing positive parenting techniques instead of corporal punishment.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand the number of services offered by the program to include a comprehensive teen drop-in center that is badly needed by teens in Brooklyn.

As a volunteer with architecture for humanity, I have been involved in getting to know the programs they run, especially at one of their women's shelters. They are closely interested in their clients and have a amazing sucess, which the clients themselves also recognize. They are consistantly striving to improve how their operate - and their relationship with us is a prime example, as we help them evaluate their facilities and use of their space.

In working with CAMBA as a volunteer through AFHny, we have had long and valued partnership in implementing a new program within one of their Homeless Services facility. From the beginning they were open and excited by this new prospect and have stayed committed to seeing it through and impelemented to hopefully change the way the system works. Their supportive staff have taken time after hours to meet with us to make this project works and continuously go out of their way in getting it through the red tape because they truly value the experience their clients have in their shelters and want to always improve the possibilities of success.

Working with CAMBA has given me the chance to broaden my professional scope, strengthen my communication skills and work in initiatives that have a positive impact in my community. CAMBA has also given me the opportunity to learn more about different cultures and the way different people think and live. Overall, through my work with this organization I have learnt that it is not impossible to find unity in diversity.

Last year I received winter coats for me and my children. I was so thankful for the help that CAMBA gave my family. This year we used the food pantry 3 different times.

I have long been aware of the role CAMBA's played helping Brooklyn's large in-need population. Its mission and programs are compelling, appropriately conceived and executed, and clearly helpful at the most practical level.

I I have found the staff at CAMBA's Shelter program to be genuine and extremely caring and nurting of the women they serve. Having a background in social work I have witness the staff intervene with an emotionally distraught woman in an effectively caring manner. Instead of the usual "shut-up" or " be quiet" the staff responded by asking the woman what does she need? lets us know and we will do our best. The woman began to shed tears and lowered her voice and went with staff to a private location to discuss her concerns.
