Mission: Byte Back’s mission is to improve economic opportunity for low-income residents of the Washington DC area by providing computer training and employment readiness skills.
Results: Over the past four years, Byte Back dramatically increased its income, the number of residents served and the number and types of classes offered. We expanded the number of students taught annually from 293 to 1098 (275%) and the number of course slots provided per year from 365 to 1427 (291%). In addition, we became a licensed post-secondary school and added a number of in-dustry-wide recognized IT certification training programs to our array of classes. In 2010 Byte Back won an honorable mention from the Washington Post Awards for Excellence in Non-profit Management. Milestones... In 2011  Byte Back enrolled 45 District Residents in a program (90 course hours and an 80 hour intern-ship) designed for individuals who are interested in starting their own neighborhood computer repair business. Those students wishing to start their own business worked with WACIF to do so. Those who wanted employment as a Computer Support Specialist received placement assistance from Byte Back.  Provided free refurbished computers to 552 program graduates and a year of free internet to 349 program graduates, enabling them to continue practicing their new skills and accessing services and information from home. (Thanks to partnerships with First Time Computers, Cricket Commu-nications and the DC Public Library.) In 2010...  We were included in the 2010-11 Catalogue for Philanthropy.  Began teaching computer classes in Spanish and in American Sign Language in the fall of 2011 in order to assist more DC residents to bridge the digital divide.

Byte Back is a fine place to take classes, assist in community training, contribute to as well as keep in touch with. The staff and instructors have been very good for many. Some time ago I wanted to learn how to clean my computer. I attended sessions there and learned how plus some. I actually learned how to dismantle and rebuild one. It was a tremendous experience and joy. Prior to that I'd attended other Byte Back training sessions that enhanced my ability to use Personal Computers, the internet and write/decipher code, ... I thank God for Byte Back and its staff and will continue to encourage others to attend and contribute to Byte Back. I pray for the continuation of this program and for all involved in it. THANK YOU very much Byte Back!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the work that I was able to do after being taught by Byte Back instructors.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The staff were professional who worked together and had respect for everyone, from the children through the elderly.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional and sincerely involved in providing training to every student.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach so many more folks to close the digital divide.

I have been attending classes at Byte Back for a number of years. I am currently employed as a program assistant at an International Organization and wanted to keep my skills up to date, because of Byte Back's schedule and pricing I am able to attend the classes that I need. There was also a class on Budgeting which was very well received by everyone who attended. I can truly say that Byte Back provides a necessary service to everyone.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very easy to talk and gave info about programs at other organizations if they do not provide it.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

I work for one of Byte Back's partner organizations, Academy of Hope. We were able to start our computer program years ago because of a wonderful Byte Back Intern, Mimi, who later joined our staff for several years. Today, once again, Byte Back helps us offer classes at our school.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the difference it's made for people who completed their courses.
