In addition to being a volunteer for over seven years, I am also a donor and Board member. About a year ago I assisted BCM with gathering client feedback in connection with establishing a new strategic plan. The feedback that was so often mentioned by clients was that the assistance provided by the staff and many volunteers at BCM was given with a joy and graciousness and respect for the individual that meant so much to each client. Put another way, the volunteers and staff at BCM were very genuine in the desire to serve their fellow man.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I feel strongly that BCM is a good steward of its funds and is devoted to helping others. That gives me a good feeling that working for money simply doesn't provide

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Try to find reasonable cost ways to get their worthwhile activities spread to more potential donors and supporters

I have volunteered at BCM for 5 years and truly appreciate the opportunity to have a hands on way to help my neighbors in need. The community of volunteers and staff at BCM are passionate about bringing hope to all clients. Through food, financial assistance, clothing, housing, or direction to other resources, BCM lends a hand and heart to thousands of Atlantans in need. I could not imagine a more genuine place to spend my philanthropic time and money.

I have personally experienced the results of this organization in the faces of the clients which we help. The impact on a family if you help pay a utility bill or provide rent assistance, for example, is tremendous. I see the faces of these clients as we change their situations for the better and it is the reason I volunteer at BCM.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the life skills and money management classes already offered to perhaps those not in a housing program. The classes are critical to stopping the cycle of poverty, so the more people we could train, the more we could help them change their future.

I haved worked cosely with the staff at BCM as a member of the board for over 3 years. I have also volunteered and worked with clients in the money management program. I have seen how BCM can really change lives, eaither through the simple gift of food or financial assistance or through a longer term transformation via continuing eductaion and transitionl housing. I think the staff genuinely care about the best interests of the clients and I think that donors funds are used prudently.

I used to be a client of Buckhead Christian Ministries and they helped me and my daughter by accepting us into the Transitional Housing Program. Since my time there I have progressed in life including becoming a volunteer for BCM. BCM is an extrodinary ministry making profound impact in the community by helping those in need and equipping them with the tools to survive every day life.

I have had the privilege of volunteering for BCM for about 1.5 years. Our clients are hard working people of all faiths who have experienced a recent set back and need a temporary helping hand. Our clients are so grateful for even their smallest blessings. The food, clothing or financial assistance that we provide often makes a tremendous difference in their lives. Our clients are my heroes - people that work hard, have not had the same opportuntites that I have had and yet are appreciative while maintaining an incredibly positive attitude under very difficult circumstances. Last but not least, the staff at BCM also works extraordinarily hard and is always focused on doing everything possible within our guidelines to help our clients. BCM is an amazing ministry!

I personally experience the positive impact that BCM has in the lives of our clients every day that I am there. Just today, we helped a single mother of 3 small children who left an abusive husband and is struggling to work enough hours, find affordable day care while meeting all the fundamental needs of her children. She burst into tears when I told her that we could give her food and clothing today for her family.

Helen Cunningham, the executive director, her team and the board do an amazing job of serving so many in our community while always being mindful of how the dollars are being spent. In addition, there is a terrific volunteer team that are very committed to BCM. I would love to find ways to encourage even more people to volunteer.

I started volunteering for BCM in 1998 because my mother suggested it. I served on various committees until 2001 when I was able to start volunteering as an intake counselor and helpline attendant. I was so moved by the clients and impressed with BCM's management that I joined the staff in 2002. I have been working at BCM for almost 9 years now, and I am still amazed by what our clients can accomplish wth a little help from our generous partner churches, donors and volunteers. I love that BCM gives people a chance to learn and make a change in their life. I especially love that while we incorporate accountability and hard work into all of our programs, we also balance everything with mercy and compassion. I am so blessed to be a part of this wonderful organization.

I have seen people I know through church, work and other places who needed help do to illness and job loss. BCM has been able to help them and thousands of others to meet their basic needs in the short-term and learn skills to make long-term changes as well.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand The 70/30 Project to serve more families.
