Issues: Children & Youth

Location: 1160 North Market Street Elizabethtown PA 17022 USA

Mission: Recognizing the fundamental rights of all children, we empower families and communities to make real and lasting changes in the lives of orphans and at-risk children through international special needs adoption grants and humanitarian initiatives.
Results: As of April 1st, 2014, Brittany's Hope has helped united 667 special children from around the world with loving families in the United States. Every year, our Orphan Care programs nourish, clothe, shelter and educate over 1,400 children and provide them with the fundamentals that break the cycle of poverty and grants them control of their own future.
Target demographics: abandoned children live healthy and happy lives.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 102 special children come home to loving families and thousands more by providing food, clean water, shelter, clothing and an education
Geographic areas served: Viet Nam, Ethiopia, Kenya and around the world
Programs: Brittany's Hope Foundation recognizes that for every child who finds a loving family, there are many more who are left behind. Brittany's Hope works to improve the quality of life for those children. We build and repair orphanages and living centers worldwide. We develop and implement nutrition programs to deliver protein-rich food to undernourished children. We provide livestock and crop plantings to initiate far-reaching self-sustainable efforts within impoverished orphanages. Our Brittany's Cribs project provides cribs for children who spend their days in broken cribs without mattresses or blankets. The Emily Cane Project gives canes, mobility instruction, and independence to the blind. By providing an education, through college or vocational school, we break the cycle of poverty and empower young adults to take control of their own future. Our work is possible because of generous personal and corporate donations.

Brittany’s Hope Foundation will forever be important to our family. The last month before we traveled to China to adopt our daughter, we still needed to raise funds to cover our in-country expenses and travel expenses. Brittany’s Hope issued us a generous grant that made it possible for us to travel to China to adopt our daughter without the worry of incurring a substantial debt. This is the only grant we received that provided a detailed packet of information to guide grant recipients through each step of the grant process. The instructions were well organized and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone seeking a matching grant to adopt a child with special health care needs.

As a member of the general public, I have had numerous encounters with Brittany's Hope Foundation (BHF) and their outreach programs in Viet Nam.

The first time I encountered BHF was in November 1995, when their Executive Director, Candace Abel, traveled back to Viet Nam in order to personally experience the Vietnamese culture and understand the orphanage and adoption processes. I was only 6 at the time, but I remembered clearly how their presence at my orphanage brought so much excitement and happiness to the orphan and special needs children. As an orphan child now living in the United States, I can truly testify to the wonderful work that they provide in third world countries.

Another momentous encounter was rather recently during my own personal travel to my mother land after 14 years. In search of my own past and history, I discovered that BHF was also in Viet Nam on another excursion to Cam Ranh and other cities throughout Viet Nam in order to volunteer to spend time with the orphan children and help build orphanages, and brings gifts of not only time, but talents and also treasure to the needy. I was not a volunteer myself, but I remembered spending time with the volunteers and remembered clearly their devotion to BHF to assist in the process in order to make life a little easier for these children who endures a squalid existence in a government-run orphanage as I once was. Further more, that year in Viet Nam, I had the opportunity to also volunteer my time with BHF when they returned for the second time, this time not only to Central Viet Nam and Southern Viet Nam, but in Ha Noi, Viet Nam's capital.

In all my years as a pursuer of successful non-profit programs, I have never seen so much devotion as I have experienced with BHF. Though their base is in small Elizabethtown, their humanitarian projects are successfully executed in third world countries all the way across the world. I have personally experienced the difficulty in conducting a conference call at 12 pm or 1 am US time in order to accommodate for the time zone difference on the other side of the world. I can go on for days about how much I personally appreciate BHF even though I am not an affiliate, but I believe that an outsider's eyes, the general public's opinion gives new insights to a foundation that may or may not already exist.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Viet Nam many many years ago when they changed my life by assisting in my own adoption to the United States, which gave me an opportunity to not only have a great family, but also graduate from one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Johns Hopkins University.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find more donations and supporters to the foundation in order to help them have an even greater impact on the lives of the special needs orphans in third world countries.

Talking with Candice on the phone felt as though I was speaking with an old friend with the same passions for Jesus and His orphaned children that I have.

I am a sponsor for a little boy in Vietnam through Brittany's Hope. Their care and obvious love for the children there is AWESOME!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it closer to my own hometown so that I could serve better!

Our family is incredibly grateful for the wonderful support we have received in the adoption of our daughter. The financial strain of adoption can be enough to dissuade many families from taking the leap to bring a child in need home. Brittany's Hope has a profound effect on the family adopting. The support they give is not only financial. They are encouraging, emotionally supportive and truly excited about the gift they are giving to children.

I have been very impressed by the professionalism of the Brittany's Hope staff. They are efficient in their responsiveness, effective in their communication and thorough in their paperwork.

We will be traveling to adopt our new daughter soon. We look forward to sharing in her future which is made possible, in part, by the loving support we have received from Brittany's Hope!
