BRIGHTER TOMORROWS INC Reviews
I was appaled by the way Brighter Tomorrows staff is expected to treat sheltar residents. They were treated as less-than and the healthy amount of pride that normal human beings should have was refused them. It felt like they were being further abused by staff.
Additionally, the board member I contacted about this behavior seemed to have no problem with it. And when I addressed that the women were being controled instead of given structure I was told, by her, that "some of these woman come in so beaten down they they cannot control themselves."
That is not okay. The Mission Statment says the goal is to empower, that is not what is being done.

Treat the clients with respect instead of exerting contol and power over them.
Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
Yes, it opened my eyes to the reality of non-profits. I had heard stories similar to my experiance about other sheltars but I did not believe them until I experianced them for myself.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
Only slightly helpful. I can provide materials but I can not make an organization treat it's clients with respect.
