Mission: In response to the public health crisis of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Fund (BCF) identifies - and advocates for elimination of - the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease.
Programs: BCF has been successful in creating models for the nation that are designed to identify toxic exposures and to reduce toxic chemicals in our homes and neighborhoods. Our current program work includes: Organizing a national cosmetics campaign that focuses on targeting manufacturers that use known or suspected breast carcinogens in personal care products, pressuring them to remove these cancer-causing chemicals and replace them with safe alternatives. Making San Francisco the first city in the nation to adopt a landmark Precautionary Principle ordinance that seeks to protect public and environmental health. Sponsoring legislation to create the first-ever statewide program to measure the "pollution in people" so that we can take action to eliminate toxic chemicals from our bodies and our environment.
