BreakThrough serves the Homeless, the Youth, and the oppressed people of Chicago through basic human services, education, shelter, and love. This is authentic Christian Servant Leadership. I've stopped tithing to my church since they've stopped representing Jesus Christ insofar as I've witnessed and re-directed our tithe and offerings here and to other charities who have excellent ratings. My dollar has to go farther to support Christian ministries: Each penny counts at BreakThrough and they judiciously evaluate how best they can serve the urban poor, to encourage and empower them to live full, productive, healthy, happy lives. Christ lives here.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Pastor Mike Murphy has helped many of us in the wealthy suburbs envision the struggles and need in urban communities. He is gifted in bridging two worlds: Urban and suburban. Wealth-burdened and wealth-starved. Shamefully prideful and sadly humbled. BreakThrough responds to human need in amazing ways.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
....well.... I've seen the changes already! I asked that they not waste paper in sending me monthly statements. I'm a tree hugger and they responded, discontinuing any snail mail, opting for email instead. Ask and ye shall receive! I cannot think of any change to recommend.

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?
I've been giving my meager financial donations to a wealthy suburban church where I live (as well as other 4-star-rated Christian charities like World Vision). My church has not been good stewards and recently, I've seen a shift from Christlike behavior and doctrine to pharisaical, judgmental, political worldviews. I'm not able to financially support my home-church if the Senior Pastor decides to turn His pulpit into his own pulpit. I'm sad that my church has been corrupted by sin and will continue to serve this community with my spiritual gifts. I give great thanks that I can contribute meaningfully to Christ's mission in other ways.
Why did you make your donation at this time?
His calling. There is such great need with our Urban Poor.
