Bread & Roses provides what Huey Lewis calls a "twofer." The people it serves are moved and healed by the performers. But it works both ways, because the performers get a boost from the kind of audiences they rarely play for.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

serve a whole lot more audiences in need.

I have been involved with Bread & Roses for about 20 years. I started as a community volunteer and then I served as Treasurer of the board of directors for several years, the Chair of the board for several years and finally, a community member of the finance committee. In short, it is an amazing organization that does so much with so little. Bread & Roses provides over 500 shows a year to individuals isolated in institutions all over the SF Bay Area. It is hard to explain the impact they have on these people until you attend one of their shows. It is really a life changing experience as a simple attendee. Imagine how important it is to the resident of the cancer center or convalescence home. Bread & Roses relies very heavily on volunteers and they have some amazing people supporting them-from professional perfomers to the office staff-they always put on an amazing show. Bread & Roses will always be near the top of my giving priority.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

attending many of the shows and in working with such a devoted staff.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching the impact on the audience at a convalescence home...it is amazing!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

devoted and professional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

serve so many more people. They have always had a large waiting list for institutions that would like to add Bread & Roses to their monthly agenda. B&R just does not have the funds to serve all these organizations.

I've known many musicians that have been involved in events w Bread & Roses, benefit concerts and also performing in jails (incl San Quentin) & holding songwriting workshops. Bread & Roses is a fantastic organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

all very nice people and the musicians that volunteer with Bread & Roses are fantastic people

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

survive in this rough economy and fund it's stellar work.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

getting money from donors in this really ugly economy we have. same problem w/ all nonprofits these days.

One thing I'd also say is that...

you should give your money to bread & roses

About once a year
