The team at the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County is amazing. It is obvious they enjoy their job and want to better the lives of all the children who walk through their doors. They continually go above and beyond, and find innovative ways to not only fund their activities, but also provide something for all children. This is one of, if not THE, best nonprofit in Kern County.

When I was first introduced to the Boys and Girls Club I was certainly looking at a umber of organizatiosn to get involved with. The Staff had this air about them that they beelived they could and would make a difference in each child they served. I was intrigued. AS I got more nad more involved with them I realized jsut how much of an impact they had. Every child is addressed by first name. Each child has a unique circumstance and each is dealth with accordinly. As the organization grew right infront of my eyes that special treatment seemed liek the foundation and not a fluke. I had teh opportuntity to watch the Club grow from less than 1000 kids to well over 5000 all while keeping the basic foundation it was built apon. These are special people shaping our kids. It is an honor to ba apart fo this incredible organization.

As a representative for Bakersfield Magazine, I can say that without a doubt, the staff of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County exhibits nothing but passion for the Clubs. We consistently hear about upcoming events and ways we can get involved, not only as a media sponsor, but as a volunteer. And as our partnership has grown, we've seen just how much support the Clubs give to the local children in our area. We've also been able to be a part of many of their events, to hear of new activities, and see new Clubs open all to the benefit of those children and families who need a safe place to learn and grow in Kern County. It's been an absolute pleasure to be involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County and to interact with each member of their staff, who consistently look for new opportunities to further help the boys and girls they serve. The magazine sees this partnership as incredibly valuable and hopes to stay involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County for years to come.

Chevron has been a major corporate sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club for over 10 years. Through our partnership, we have been able to positively impact the lives of many youth. Most recently, we donated $10,000 to support programs and provided seed money for a brand new science curriculum to be implemented at the Bakersfield Clubs. We also have a Chevron employee who serves on the Governing Board to help with organizational support and to help facilitate decision making. Our continued partnership is vital to improving the conditions of the communities where Chevron employees live and work.

My day job is as the Community Serivices Director for three radio stations serving Kern County and based in Bakersfield. I've done this for over 30 years and in that time have watched the Boys and Girls Club grow from a held-together-with-spit-and-glue building in one of the most economically depressed areas of Bakersfield to a shiny, new building that is the pride of its neighborhood. In the ensuing years, B&G Clubs have expanded to cover several of our outlying communities, areas that sorely need everything the Clubs can offer children, especially the self-confidence to move up and move out into the world and make a difference. I brag on those kids and the B&G clubs whenever I can. They do good work for kids that teeter on the brink, always looking for ways those kids can interact with our community. The children are often at-risk or from neighborhoods where gang activity is prevalent. Because of the B&G Clubs, the children now have a chance and choices. The Clubs and the children they serve are a welcome addition to my world and I'm proud to say that I'm an avid supporter.

I know Zane Smith, Executive Director, and I was happy to sponsor a $2,500 donation through our Union Bank Foundation. On my visit, I was so impressed! The kids are so engaged and energetic, even the teenagers. The adult leaders were the same way and obviously have a passion for making a difference in the lives of these kids. Zane showed the amazing art work the kids have done. My visit made me want to be a part of such a positive environment.

My husband and I started attending the Boys & Girls Club fund raisers in Bakersfield about 10 yrs ago. We always enjoyed the events and we admired the way the organization was represented. The positive energy we experienced knowing that we could help make a difference in our community by supporting an organization that really was about creating a healthy environment for kids was unbelievable. It became one of those things we looked forward to every year and an opportunity to support an organization that we believed in. This year I joined the Boys & Girls Club ArtFest committee. Wow… to say that I was overwhelmed in the beginning would be an understatement. It took me a while before I could see the forest for all the trees. The members of this committee are incredible people, deeply rooted into the community, and their dedication to their cause is masked by no other. I have never been involved in an event of this size or with a group of people who are so capable of getting a job done. Although I am learning as I go, I hope to be invited back next year and be able to bring a little more to the table. It has been a wonderful experience for me and I take pride just being in the company of such dedicated community leaders.

I don't know where to start when it comes to the positive things I could say about the Boys & Girls Club Of Bakersfield. My son has made so many friends there, and the staff is simply outstanding. The staff sets a great example for the kids, and are easy to talk with. There are always plenty activities for the kids - basketball, foosball, ping-pong, dodgeball, sleepovers, field trips, computer access, water days, study areas, tournaments, and more. The B&GC;has made my job as a parent easier, and has made a positive impact on the life of my child. I really can't say enough good things about it. - Danny

I have not dealt with the Boys & Girls Club directly, however, I have had the pleasure of interviewing members of the agency for my Community Focus Radio Show. Everyone I have met or had on my show from the B&G Club has been friendly and professional, and always knowledgeable about the event they were here to promote. I get frequent news releases and public service announcements from the Club and feel the staff does an execellent job of getting the word out about the services and activities they provid to kids in our community. Keep up the good work.

The Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to providing neighborhood youth with a safe place to go after school and during summers. During the school year, they receive help with their homework, and have the opportunity to be mentored and impacted by positive adults. I am most impressed with the exposure that the children receive to the arts in the way of drawing, painting, and drama.
