I have been involved with the Blue Hill Troupe for over fifty years. Here is a group in which your volunteer efforts not only make a difference to the charity we support each year, but also enrich your body, mind and heart. Whether you are singing on stage or helping produce the show from backstage, there is lots of physical activity, so much to learn and you'll make some of the best friends of your life as you work and play together!

This group not only works for a great cause every year, they provide an amazing experience at all facets of the production. The people who work on these productions give so much of themselves, and the end quality is just as good or better then many other professional theaters I've worked with in the past. Not only that, they make you feel like family. I'm so proud of the accomplishments of the Blue Hill Troupe, and I look forward to working with them for many years in the future.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

so many facets of my life. I moved to New York without knowing many people. The first thing I did was reach out to local Gilbert and Sullivan Troupes. Not only did the Blue Hill Troupe reach out to my right away, they've been a surrogate family for me since moving here.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not do a thing. Blue Hill Troupe has been around for over 80 years, and they have their management down to a science. It's the most refreshing aspect of working for them.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

I'm not a very good ad seller, so sometimes I feel badly trying to do that aspect, but I know it's a vital part of the process.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Most definitely. The artistic team is amazing. I feel like I've learned as much with the Blue Hill Troupe as I did on some of my college music classes.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

They're not just friends, they're a family.

I joined Blue Hill Troupe in 2005 as a way to both give back to the community and have fun while doing it. BHT's model is unique in that each we partner with a new local charity who is the beneficiary of our fundraising efforts. Those efforts? 2 fully-sage musical productions where the volunteers build sets, costumes, sell tickets, sing--everything that a major performing company does. Lastly, BHT has a deep tradition of helping those new to NY integrate and meet new friends. I've lived in NY since 1992 and this was the best thing I have done.
