The original post is NOT a lie, Carole Lewis Baskin did indeed purchase most of the animals at that facility, to the tune of yes over $90K. Carole Lewis Baskin cannot hide the paper trail, the truth is there in black & white, and alot of info is available on the net, for those who have concerns enough to do their own research, and not believe the lies, upon lies, upon lies that Big Cat Rescue perpetuates in order to deceive & defraud the public.

Incredibly grateful to have an organization like this helping otherwise helpless animals. Please visit, donate or, at minimum, sign petitions supporting state-level laws to ban ownership of wildlife. The cats you see here have all got sad tales of being abandoned and deserve to have as good a quality life as Big Cats Rescue can provide. They are compassionate in caring for the animals and in educating us on why Big Cats SHOULD NOT be pets.

I have been a volunteer, albeit on a small scale, and fan of Big Cat Rescue for approximately 5 years. I have been a volunteer in many areas for over 25 years and have respect and admiration for groups that are able to contribute to the betterment of the environment and the earth's inhabitants as BCR does. They are untiring in their efforts to protect the big cats who, while well able to defend themselves one-on-one with a seen foe, have little chance against the unscrupulous humans who have no respect for life. I am proud to be associated with an organization that speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Well I am currently writing a paper on 501(c)3 organizations/charities for one of my government classes and for this paper "Big Cat Rescue" is one of the two charitable organizations I am writing about on how legit the organizations are as well as finding where donations go and the truth/lies about the organizations to find out whether it would be a good organization to donate money to or to support but I have found both good and bad about "Big Cat Rescue" but after much research I do have one question which is....Why is "Big Cat Rescue" refusing to be evaluated by the BBB standard for charity accountability? This is makes it hard for me to believe all the good things about the organization if there is nothing to hide then why not allow it? If I can get a response it would be greatly appreciated. if references are wanted I can give them.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Allow BBB to evaluate and show where the money for this organization goes.

Big Cat Rescue continues to exceed in every way. Their sanctuary rates as one of the top in the country because each and every staff member/volunteer is dedicated to the cats. Walking thru the sanctuary one gets a feeling of contented, well cared for cats. They aren't in cages, but instead large enclosures which are done as closely to their natural habitats as possible. Various enrichment "toys" are included daily to keep the animals occupied and help them exercise as well. My only regret or "complaint" is that we don't live close enough for both my husband and I to volunteer!!

Big Cat Rescue is a fabulous sanctuary for exotic big (and little) wild cats that have either been abused, abandoned or are retired from a circus. They have saved hundreds of these cats who enjoy their years at a sanctuary that not only gives excellent care, but lots of love personally to each animal. A high light of our visits to the west coast of Florida is always a stop to tour BCR. I always walk away in awe over how clean the facility is, how wonderful all the animals look and what an excellent staff, both paid and volunteer they have. They also do their best to rehab the bobcats that they rescue - often who have been hit by cars.

The Great!

Big Cat Rescue, Tampa, Florida is a sanctuary for over100 exotic big cats. There are 16 species of cats, many endangered or extinct now in the wild. Tigers, Lions, Leopards,Cougars, Bobcats, Lynx,Servals, Ocelots and Caracats are part of the BCR "family".
Many are there because they have been
abandoned by owners who thought they would make good pets. Some have been "performers" and are now retired from performing. Others were saved from becoming fur coats and some were brought in as babies because hunters killed the mothers. BCR has educated people in an effort to stop the flow of exotic cats being kept as pets or being used as performers. They are fighting for stronger laws to protect these animals. I have learned a great deal from this awesome non-profit organization. Thanks to BCR, I am now fighting for the rights of these animals and I am most grateful to BCR for the providing a sanctuary for these magnificent big cats.

A wonderful sanctuary that provides excellent care to their cats, who is also helping to stop the continual breeding of wild cats by non-accredited facilities.

As a volunteer at Big Cat Rescue, not only do we provide excellent care for the cats (by cleaning their enclosures every day, feeding them the best food money can buy, providing them with multiple types of enrichment, and operant conditioning, etc), but a major part of our mission is also to "end the trade in exotic cats". As a tour guide, we educate the public every day on the dangers of wild cats being owned by private hands, as well as describe the conditions that many of our cats were rescued from. Big Cat Rescue is not a zoo; we do not tell you just about the species and facts. Many of our cats came from shut-down facilities, relinquished from owners who could not care for them anymore or simply did not want them anymore, or those who aged-out of circuses and could not perform anymore. Part of our mission is to discuss this with our tour guests, and encourage them to become "advocats" (to contact their legislators, and follow campaigns such as ending private breeding of tigers, and banning traveling circuses with animals). The welfare of the cats at Big Cat Rescue is WHY we all volunteer or work for BCR. Not only do we have a huge desire to make the lives of the cats in our care the best they can be, but we also strive to make the lives of other cats we may never know the best they can be as well. All of the volunteers and staff at BCR have pure hearts of gold.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing legislation change due to the majority requesting that which would benefit animals! Also, seeing cats who came from unfortunate circumstances enjoy their relaxing new homes!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Recruit more advocats through education. We have touched so many through our tours, who simply did not realize consequences of things such as: One day those tigers who perform for you at the circus will become too arthritic to perform but have many years of life left, and those baby tiger cubs you posed with for a photograph at a mall or fair will become a huge adult and potentially be sold into private hands to a roadside zoo or backyard (or potentially, be killed and sold for their parts).

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

If we had more volunteers, I think we could reach more people. Currently we have enough amazing, dedicated volunteers to efficiently perform keeper duties, and partner/advocat duties, however if we had more to do more outreach events and recruit more advocats, I think that would be awesome!

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have made so many friends through Big Cat. Some of my favorite people, the most amazing friends I could ever imagine, are volunteers at Big Cat. I have always been an animal lover but since I've been volunteering at BCR, I have also become much more involved with animal activism.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Totally super amazing!

The big cats need you, they are tortured and hurt. But if people like Big Cat Rescue help, we can make a difference. Big Cat Rescue is humane and caring. They try to release the big cats back into the wild as soon as they can. The cats habitats are big and natural. So if you have some money to help the big cats, please do so and feed a cat today!!! ~Sophia 12years old
