They preach that a TRUE sanctuary NEVER breeds, purchases, trades or sells any animal, and that they provide PERMANENT life long homes for the animals. My question is where did all the lemurs go?

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Unprofessional, cocky and untruthful.
Ways to make it better...
i was not lied to about where the animals have come from, or gone to.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Fraud and Lies

I have been a BCR volunteer for the past 15 months. Prior to becoming a volunteer I was a donor/supporter. Big Cat Rescue volunteers are the most dedicated and hard-working group of people I have ever met. The well-being of the cats is first and foremost. Big Cat Rescue's mission is to 1) Care for the Cats and 2) End the trade.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the dedication of every volunteer.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
change the few anti-BCR fanatics' minds. Big Cat Rescue is a true Sanctuary and exceeds USDA standards as well as holds a coveted AZA accredidation.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
enriching the lives of these cats, and making their retirements as enjoyable as possible.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
amazing. BCR volunteers clean the sanctuary in the rain and on holidays, 7 days a week. Some come in on their vacations from work. Some come in the evenings after working a full day @ their jobs, to work another few hours with the cats.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
build larger enclosures for the cats we have, provide a permanent home for the cats to come, and spread the word for the cats... Because if we don't speak for them, who will?
Ways to make it better...
I had more time to volunteer. The line of employment I am in pays well, but what I earn in hearing the chuffs, caterwauls and purrs of happy cats makes all the difference.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
the close-minded folks who wish to continue farming cats, keep them in their backyards, or don't care if an entire species becomes extinct.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Big Cat Rescue is the most rewarding organization I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every week

I am both a volunteer at and a donor to BCR. It's a wonderful organization focused on the rescue and care of abandoned, abused and/or retired performing wild cats. No breeding is done and every animal has lifetime care in spacious natural habitats, never concrete cages. BCR's bigger mission is to end the private ownership ans abuse of wild animals and the preservation of natural habitats and species in them. The founders take no salaries, expenses are bare bonres and focus on the proper care and feeding of our residents.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The dedication of all volunteers and the continuing efforts to educate and be the best we can be.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Dedicated, hard working, well trained, passionate in their love for the big cats!!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Be secuyre in knowing the future expenses (almost $1 million in food and vets annually) would be taken care of. Funds to focus on the greater mission of passing people/animal protecting legislation... habitat preservation and restoration.
Ways to make it better...
I had the physical strength to be a keeper and work directly in caring for the cats.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Exotic pet industry. Those who feel they have a "right" to own wild animals which NEVER make good pets. Lack of natural habitat.
One thing I'd also say is that...
The day following my first tour at BCR in 2005 I became a volunteer. I have never regretted it and sometimes think I've never worked so hard!

Even though I do not live in Tampa, I have had the opportunity to visit Big Cat Rescue twice now and have loved every minute of the tours! The staff and volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. In addition, I have been a long time online follower and donor. One of the most amazing facts about Big Cat Rescue is how effectively they use the money received. The CEO/founder Carole, VP Cathleen, and Treasurer Harold collect NO COMPENSATION from BCR! (check page 7 the Form 990 for details) In addition, a vast amount of the work done at the sanctuary is done by (unpaid) volunteers. Thus, any money collected is able to go directly to helping the cats under their care and helping educate people about the plight of other "big cats". Please consider joining me in supporting this worthy organization!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
not do as good of a job as Carole, Harold and the rest of the management team has!
