My friend and I visiting New York - me for the first time - in October 2008 and on our first day we were met by Richard our Big Apple Greeter. What a great start to the wonderful city he was - he knew everything about the history of New York and no question we asked went unanswered. It was the best introduction we could have had because we set out the next day with a great overview and knowing exactly what we wanted to see and investigate further. Thank you, Big Apple Greeter - long may you provide your unsurpassable welcome to NY. xxx

The four of us met up with our BAG at 9am in the hotel lobby and had an absolutely fantastic day with him. He showed us how to use the subway system and took us to some great places of interest all over the city. We would never have done half of this without our Greeter. He made our trip to New York most memorable and if anyone asks us what was the best part of our trip we always say, without hesitation, 'The Big Apple Greeter'!!

Our Guide gave a personal service meeting us in the foyer of our hotel with subway tickets he had already purchased, asking us what we wanted to see and then guiding us through downtown New York, He even took us to lunch in a cafe that matched our surname - The Essex World Cafe. We had a thoroughly enjoyable tour, with a guide who gave his personal experiences of a great city, all for free, an excellent experience I would recommend to anyone.

Our big apple greeter met us at our hotel room & had organised a great day trip for us! He showed us how to use the subway, it was great walking around with a local on our first day - it helped us get the pace of walking through the city and also get the hang of crossing the road :)
We walked through a large part of the city -times square, Greenwich village, city hall, Chelsea, across the Brooklyn bridge and through Brooklyn. It was also wonderful to get advice from someone unbiased on where to get the best New York pizza - Rays pizza in Soho so worth the walk even through icy rain!!!

Our greeter showed us how to use the subway as well as how to get around above ground. He helped lay out Manhattan that set the pace for the remainder of our wonderful visit. Thank you Big Apple Greeter!

New York was the first stop on my trip to the US a few years back and the Big Apple Greeter experience is a favourite memory of my two months travelling through America. I can't speak highly enough of this excellent initiative! A friend who lives just out of New York joined me and my greeter as we were picked up in Manhattan and toured through Brooklyn. The experience was so fantastic for him also that he tells me it's become a new favourite place for him to return to when in New York.

The benefit of my greeters local knowledge and the personal nature of the tour makes you feel so welcomed as a tourist in such a massive city. I felt like a freind was showing me around their neighbourhoud and that I was welcomed - it holds a special place in my heart. Since returning home to Australia I have encourged all my friends who have travelled to NYC to book in for their own Big Apple Greeter experience - those that did have not regretted it. It made my time in New York not only more enjoyable but easier as I learnt tips on how to get around, and some pointers on places to see and things to do.

Thank you so much Big Apple Greeters - you rock!

We are from Australia and were on our first trip to New York. We read about the Big Apple Greeter in a review in a Melbourne newspaper and decided it would be a good idea. We registered and were allocated a Greeter by the name of Al. He met us at our hotel and proceeded to take us on an excellent walking tour of NYC. What a fabulous experience. We were shown things we would never have seen and enjoyed a lunch in Chinatown. We had a quick trip on the subway but most of it was walking. Sights included the New York Public Library which was fantastic, Grand Central Station, Central Park, Ground Zero, Chinatown, Little Italy and a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Our guide was absolutely fascinating and his knowledge of New York was bottomless. We would do it again in a flash. Thanks to Big Apple Greeters and of course Al, for a fabulous, informative and really interesting walking trip through New York.

it was our first trip to NY from Australia and we were absolutely delighted to be met at our hotel by Irene and taken to parts of the city we would never had the confidence to visit. We were taken to parts of Manhatten and shown the best bagel bakeries, lunch by the Hudson River and trips on the underground and buses. It opened our eyes to the friendliness of New Yorkers and we always felt safe and welcomed as visitors. We would love to return one day.

Charles Schwartz was our guide to all things New York. Charles is a volunteer with Big Apple Greeter. This organization opens the city to the world with volunteers giving guided tours to the burrough and/or place of your choice. You are matched based on your preference of sites with someone who has personal knowledge of the area. We requested a tour of the Lower East Side and Charles took us beyond the basic sight seeing experience. We entered into a time warp, through tours of buildings that had not changed for over a 100 years! He was a wealth of information as his grandfather had come to America, landed in NYC and lived in the Lower East Side. Both myself and my travelling companion found our experience with Big Apple Greeter to be the highlight of our trip. We took home the experience of feeling we had witnessed history first hand.
