My sister and I traveled to New York, April 2010. This was our first trip together without family and friends. We had never been to New York and were greeted the first morning by Al, at our hotel. He was like a walking encyclopedia, but much more interesting. We could look around while he talked, instead of referring to the tour books. We had so much fun; saw so many things; got lots of exercise and thoroughly enjoyed his company. It was our best day there. Plus he gave us so many tips we found useful for the remainder of our stay. I have already booked another trip to New York this year, and will bring my husband for his first visit. We can't wait!

My husband and I took our first trip to NYC in 2008. A friend told us about Big Apple Greeter and we were so glad she did. We spent a wonderful day with our amazing guide, Dave Schiff. We will never forget him. We wanted to see Brooklyn and boy did we! We traveled all over Brooklyn via foot, bus and subway. We had such a good time and learned so much. It definitely set the tone for the rest of our trip and we were excited about venturing out on our own in the days that followed!

Big Apple Greeter is such a gift. The entire experience was so positive right from the beginning. I would encourage anyone visiting for the first time to contact them and use their services. You will be so glad you did!

While I am a New Yorker, I am also a journalist and needed to do a story on Harlem, about which I knew nothing. I chose "Big Apple Greeter," hoping it would be as great an experience as everyone said -- it was even better. My guide was a true expert on Harlem, a neighborhood which is HUGE. We kept getting on and off subways, buses -- skirting around the neighborhood, seeing all the famous sites, shops, museums, the Apollo Theatre and even where former President Clinton has his office. I never would have found this places alone. My guide was knowledgeable, smart. told me where to return for blues at night and the best Gospel churches for Sunday mornings -- I travel the world for my work and have private guides often -- and my Big Apple Greeter was right up there with the best of them.

I travelled with my family from Sydney, Australia to the US in 2006 for a family holiday. One of cities which we were all really keen to visit was New York city, of course! I got in touch with the Big Apple Greeter service because we wanted to experience some of the other boroughs, to get a different perspective of NYC. On this occasion, we were fortunate enough to get an excellent greeter, Harold, who took us to Brooklyn. He helped us navigate the subway system and we were really impressed with Harold's knowledge of the area. Being spring time in NY, it started to snow quite heavily during our tour. Harold made sure we got to see everything but at the same time showing us some great spots to stop for a hot drink to warm up and sample baked treats in the bakeries in Brooklyn. It really was a wonderful day and we speak of the tour fondly to this day! I always tell anyone I know who's visiting NYC to book themselves on a Big Apple Greeter tour. It really is a unique way of experiencing the city and connecting with people who actually live in the city.

expand the Big Apple Greeter service to include visits to parts of NY where tourists could actually assist local residents in making their city a better place.

The Big Apple Greeter was a memorable experience and allowed us to see parts of NYC from a less touristic perspective. The contact staff were knowledgeable and friendly and helped us choose the best solution for us. Our NY greeter was relaxed and easy going. He put us immediately at ease and showed us corners of NYC we would never have found.
A great experience even if you are seasoned visitors to New York.

We (my husband and I) visited New York for the 1st time in 2010. I'd heard about Big Apple Greeters from a friend and decided to contact them on their easy to access web site. Carol Dyner met us at our hotel as arranged and she was brilliant. She walked us around places we would never have seen and recommended we buy a bus ticket to get around as I have difficulty walking. Without her input we would not have seen a quarter of the sites and her anicdotes and very interesting conversation informed us of life as a New Yorker as only a local would know.

Last September (2010), my brother, his wife, my wife and I had a great time in New York City thanks to the company and help of a wonderful Big Apple Greeter volunteer. He was a pretty gentle man who guided us to some unforgettable places and gave us valorous information about the city and how to enjoy our stay as much as possible. Thank you very much indeed BAG.

It was a few years ago that I was in NYC by myself. I arranged before I left home for a greeter to meet me & she was even more delightful &
knowledgable than I'd expected. We visited the bombsite & walked the
Brooklyn Bridge, all the while talking about things I was interested in knowing
about NYC. At the end of our meeting she put me on a subway
train to return to my hotel - my first ride on a subway. I was very much
impressed by her & by the concept of "Big Apple Greeters" in general.
It's a wonderful service for visitors & creates positive views of your great city.

My first visit to New York and I was lucky to have a Big Apple Greeter on my first day. My lovely guide came to the hotel to take me to see the Brooklyn Bridge and to a wonderful view of the Bridge and the Skyline of Manhattan from Brooklyn. We also went to China Town and Little Italy. It was so nice to have somebody to show you around, also how to use the metro. And she gave much information on the history of the places we visited and the fun places to visit later on.
The tour lasted the entire morning and it did gave me a good feeling of New York and the confidence to go and see more of the city on my own.

When the tour finished my guide went on her own way and didn't point me to the next metro station. I did feel a bit lost, but found my way very soon. Further then that nothing to change, it was great!

August 2001- A family of Belgian tourists: my husband, our youngest son and myself, enjoyed the extraordinary possibility of visiting New York guided by a volunteer of Big Apple Greeter. We had discovered this opportunity thanks to a guidebook mentioning this fantastic service. Thank you "Big Apple Greeters" for letting us see your stunning city through your eyes and your heart. We felt how much you loved your city and we couldn't help being contaminated by your enthusiasm. Since then, we've recommended your organization to many friends visiting Big Apple. If we ever go back to New York, we will certainly meet you again.
Yours sincerely, Nicole, André and Simon
