Being associated with bhumi is my first experience of doing volunteer work, and it has undoubtedly been a worthwhile experience till date. The focus area;education for the underprivileged is by far the best approach to ensure that the generations tomorrow can learn, think and implement rightfulness in all their deeds. I firmly believe that good education will bring about a change in the social, economic & cultural aspects of ones life and is hence the foundation for a good society. I will definitely be a part of this journey with bhumi as it gives me a much broader perspective on life & living with fulfillment.

Bhumi is a place that brings together people who are willing to learn-be it learning for organizing something or learning from having screwed up something. They are all highly motivated, good human beings and, above all, a very accepting bunch of people who will make anyone feel comfortable. No doubt they have a long way to go for which they will require opportunities, funding and support (which they are more than willing to embrace) but they are never short of imagination! This quality is both a good one (when done in the right amount) and a bad one (when done without accepting reality). Since learning is not a special exercise but a way of life for people at Bhumi (and questioning is the medium of learning), one might find them confused, unclear or uncertain at times because they question everything (including themselves) quite often. But, they often find a way because of their persistence. And I hope they realize that finding a way is not enough in the long run. Finding the 'right way' is crucial at times too. They seem to be doing the right things and going in the right direction though. Finally, I wish I had more interaction with people at Bhumi because my association is limited to a few meetings (so please take these comments with a pinch of salt) with them for reasons that are beyond the present scope. If you can imagine and be enthusiastic about making a difference, Bhumi will definitely aid in your growth.

It was almost 2 years since I’ve been with this organisation. As a mentor, I came to know the importance of being a leader and practising leadership skills (eg. giving impulsive solutions to the mentee problem), I’ve learnt to be patient when situation needs to be (listening to the mentee problems). As a coordinator, the program is helping me in perking up my communication skills (communicating to the mentors and between the organisation), dealing with difficult situation, interacting with leaders of the society. Apart from these, as I’m in to advertising industry this organization gave me an opportunity to work on offline and online visual communication, which gave me an exposure and helped me in improving my visualizing skills. Open for ideas, learning from mistakes, working on projects (irrespective of experience)are the best things about this organization that evoked me to join.

BHUMI is the place to be if one is committed to their personal growth and the growth of their nation!I am a completely changed individual since my last three years of association with BHUMI. I am closer to myself now, closer to my dreams and aspirations. BHUMI is about discovering yourself :) and changing the world you live in into a better place in the process. While i was involved in the 'Freedom Under Construction' project (where citizens of hyderabad invest their sweat and labour, maybe in building classrooms for a government school, or toilets, or rooms for an orphanage on independence day)i saw the difference a truly committed group of people can make in making the world around a better place...experiences like this make you believe in the potential of citizens to demand for what they deserve, demand for those not empowered enough to do it themselves and create examples of what kind of a world we choose to live in. It is a truly transformational experience for everyone involved.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Creating a broader future for government school children through the Tutoring Mentoring program, and also inculcating leadership in the mentors and tutors

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would not call them changes but improvements...i would want the organisation to have better and more organised processes.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

That its my growth that is at the center of everything

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so open and welcoming, they create a space for everyone who comes in to just be themselves and then see where they want to go

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

It could do SO MUCH MORE than what its doing now!!! It could empower so many more people.

Ways to make it better...

The program was more well planned

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the biggest challenge for the organisation is transitioning from a organisation dependent on external funding to becoming self sustainable.

One thing I'd also say is that...

BHUMI has the potential to change the lives of thousands of people for the better!

I have been part of Bhumi from the last 1 year or so as a mentor. i cannot specify what Bhumi has given me or what i have learnt from the mentorship program but every week i feel good and satisfied that i have given at least 2 hours of my time to the children who are probably not as well-off or fortunate as me. i taught a girl from the 10th class who was extremely scared about the English language exam and it was enthralling to know that not only she passed the exam but she has gotten over the fear. when i started to work for Bhumi i had the impression that i would be the one who is teaching but i guess i was wrong because in the whole process i was learning so much too that i became a student as well. this organisation needs just a bit more detailed planning to execute its ideas and i am sure then it would do much more work effectively than its already doing.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

this year results of 10th board exams when turnover of the pass percentage was higher than the previous years.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

probably end up doing what Bhumi is already doing. but i would make much more mistakes but also learn 10 times more.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the workshops organised by the organisation meant for leadership and development

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

mostly students who were extremely friendly and hard working.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do 10 million things for 10 million children who would rise and shine 10 million times.

Ways to make it better...

i had more time and dedication for the program.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of cooperation by authorities who manage the schools and may be funding.

I came in touch with Bhumi through the TEACH INDIA Campaign started by TOI. I was involved with a government school as a mentor. It was the first time that I got to know about quality of education and infrastructure in govt schools even in a city like Hyderabad. I was disappointed that the students did not have even basic infrastructure like benches and classrooms but was stunned that the students did not much care about it. They were very much enthusiastic about us coming to them and spending time with them listening to their concerns as well as us guiding them about various paths after secondary education.Bhumi helped me in getting acquainted to the various difficulties that marginalized children face studying in these schools. It was a thorough learning experience that moved me and helped me grow as a person.I got to understand the various lines of thinking of volunteers and as well the students themselves.I look forward to working more with Bhumi so that I can give my part to the society as well as learn from the various circumstances that would evolve me as a better human.

Its been almost a year now since i've been associated with Bhumi. There's a sense of social responsibility associated with each of us and this is what drove me to join Bhumi initially. Slowly when i started to get into the thick of things, i realized there is much more than just the social aspect. As quoted by one of the founders of Bhumi, "we are all on our journey of discovering our own magnificence".I soon realized Bhumi is helping me in getting closer to myself along with experimenting with myself. Bhumi is like my baby now whom i'll nurture for the rest of my life.

When i first heard about Bhoomi i thought that it was one of the many normal ngo's present in our society. But I was wrong,It is not of the many organizations that you are going to see day to day,it is an organiztion that makes not only the takers but also the givers feel something special about the whole aspect of life.It is the kind of organization whose basic foundation or the basic philosophy is "Servanrt Leadesrhip".It is an organization aimes at improving the lower sections of the society by asking its members to spend only 2-4 hours per week by educating them.It so far has achieved success in this direction even after facing several difficulties like not being scationed permission in various schools. They even tried to convince the students against BHOOMI by threatning them with things like "low marks ","beating" and "failing them".However these are very small rocks in the noble journey of BHOOMI.Infact these are the things that make the experience interesting.
