Beyond Hunger is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals overcome the obsession with food and weight and find a natural, loving and peaceful relationship with their food, weight, and selves. They provide support groups, workshops and education for adults and adolescents with eating disorders. Beyond Hunger uses a non-diet approach to explore body hatred and the psychological, cultural and spiritual issues underlying disorder eating.

As part of the Peer Education Program, Beyond Hunger has trained peer educators (ages 15-22) to teach teens about body image issues and eating disorder prevention through classroom presentations.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

They give a lot of service, they have a lot of heart, they have made a big difference in a lot of ways, especially intervening with teens so as to help improve healthy body image before it becomes a life-long problem.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Some specific goals: Establish a national and international presence via the Internet; Expand Beyond Hunger's public outreach through more presentations and workshops within schools and Community Centers; Address cultural pressures of at-risk youth; Provide training for therapists throughout the country; Establish support groups for men and boys; Establish support groups for families of individuals who suffer from disordered eating. Provide support groups throughout the entire San Francisco Bay area.
