Becky Lee Womens Support Fund

I have a family member who is a victim and I have seen how it can destroy a family and especially how the cycle of abuse negatively affects their children- I walk, help in anything I’m capable of, and raise funds in their honor, thanks to the amazing opportunity I have been given by Becky Lee to be part of Becky’s Fund. I want to continue to help and do anything possible to prevent that any more mothers and daughters and grand-daughters and friends have to suffer from domestic violence and this is all possible because of people who are heroes in our society, like Becky who creates an amazing organization such as Becky’s Fund, that have the courage to deal with social taboo issues such like domestic violence.

It has been a pleasure to know and work with Becky Lee and Becky’s Fund. From the smaller gatherings teaching empowerment to young girls, to the always fun and informative Walk This Way Event, Becky’s Fund pushes forward in it’s pursuit to end Domestic Violence. Combining both local outreach with Celebrity advocates, Becky’s Fund has been able to educate our youth and provide assistance to those who have been in Domestic Abuse situations. I thank Becky’s Fund and will continue to support this organizations efforts.

Becky's Fund is one of the hardest working non-profits. Becky has told me several stories about domestic violence and how it effects our everyday lives. Becky is continually engaging people thru events, speeches and safety classes. I look forward to helping in the future.

I'm proud to be affiliated with Becky's Fund. Domestic and dating violence is shockingly prevalent, affecting one in three women during her lifetime. Becky's Fund, under the thoughtful and capable leadership of Becky Lee, is an organization that implements large-scale changes while also providing meaningful and one-on-one support to victims. The organization's team is exceedingly committed to empowering women and girls and to the fight against domestic and dating violence. I'm altogether confident that the organization has already made and will continue to make a difference in the lives of women.

As a volunteer and supporter of the Becky fund; it means a lot to me to know that there is an organization that fosters the awareness of domestic violence. As a post victim, being a part of the Becky fund and having to opportunity to see how hard the organization work to encourage the advocacy of such violence, has not only elevated my awareness, but has also provided me with the knowledge and the tools to enhance the awareness of others. I personally feel that in today’s society, the awareness of domestic violence can never be express enough. Thank you Becky fund for all that you continue to do.

As a long time Washington D.C. resident and professional, many worthy organizations approach me and fellow DC-ites to contribute time, funds and general support for their particular cause. Becky's Fund was brought to my attention after first starting its aggressive campaign against the violence against women problem our country has, and I have been a supporter since as a donor, volunteer, and informal advisor to Ms. Lee. What's important here is that Ms. Lee is a hands on leader who tackles this sensitive issue head on. She has assisted women I know in DC with their issues in this regard, helping them work out their own personally painful experiences. However, and more important, she is working as a professional and attorney to eliminate the cause of the problem - a lack of education among young men and women regarding violence and unacceptable behavior. I will continue to support Beckys Fund in its fight. And while I am a father of two girls, so I am biased about the importance of this issue, it is an issue that affects all of us in some way, and it must be addressed by compassionate and informed professionals like Ms. Lee.

Ensure Board members donate more funds and expand the "member support base" to ensure a continual flow of funds, not just at special events. Otherwise, it is well run by Ms. Lee.

My introduction to Becky's Fund was the 2010 Walk This Way Charity Fashion Show and after that experience I was compelled to get involved. I am currently a volunteer and supporter of Becky's fund and enjoy the opportunity to serve others while raising awareness of such an important issue. Since my introduction I have been involved with other events to include but not limited to the Becky’s Fund Young Men’s Mentoring Program, 2011 Walk This Way Charity Fashion Show and even walked a mile in heels to raise awareness. It is not a surprise to see the impact in one year on the important work of Becky's Fund as more people have gotten involved in assisting the mission. It is very exciting to observe this first hand and I am looking forward to what's next.

I am a volunteer, supporter, friend and client of Becky's fund.
We have held self-defense classes at Jordin's Paradise dance and fitness studio and we have choreographed a dance skit for Walk this way 2010. Becky helped me get through some difficult times and supported me mentally. Whatever I needed help with at any time she was there to assist me. One of the greatest non-profits I have worked with and we are going to do more, greater and bigger things together that will have an impact in the World.

I guess I would be under Client Served and Volunteer. I will put client served though because that is the capacity where I have benefited most. I met Becky about 2 years ago, around the year anniversary of my rape. Since then, she has been a true friend and source of support through my struggles with that experience and dealing with other domestic abuse situations from before and since. I have especially appreciated her efforts to kick me in the ass so to speak, to push myself further to be of help to myself and to others. She believes in me and that has helped me have confidence that I am on a healthy road in dealing with myself and others. I am forever thankful that she pushed me to write for the Becky's Fund newsletter about an event that related to my experiences. I was so angry that she "made" me write! And it was one of the best things anyone has ever done for me because it helped me to move on in a way I had not been able to do for over a year. And she has had faith in me to give back by way of assisting with her Workshops for girls and young women. It has been such a rewarding experience to help inform young people to be self-aware and supportive of others. I did not have this kind of support at a young age and I feel blessed to have an opportunity to help children in any way.
More recently Becky has yet again been pro-active in helping me deal with more recent developments. She personally keeps up with me and encourages me. Through her organization I meet other like-minded people who have been a great source of support. Whenever I am around this group of people I feel so positive about the direction I am taking in my life. It has been a difficult road but one made easier to travel by the people at Becky's Fund.
I am looking forward to again helping with the "Becoming your own Heroine" workshop.

I am so thankful to Becky and Becky's Fund. I hope to help in more ways. Becky's Fund is a very pro-active group that manages to see the big picture -- educating people about domestic abuse -- yet never loses sight of those struggling to leave an abusive situation. Through education and day-to-day assistance, this organization is making a big difference in people's lives on all fronts, including mine.

What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?
This group, especially Becky and fellow survivors, have encouraged me to have confidence in myself and the progress I have made in my life. They help me on so many levels, from finding a job to figuring out my finances to just having someone to talk to. And through them they remind me that, through my experiences, I have a lot to give back to others.

As a board member, volunteer, and friend, Becky's Fund is a movement: a movement towards a world, a community, a culture that is free of domestic violence and the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical devastation that it inflicts upon the victims. Becky Lee has discovered and has promoted that the key to stopping DV is not only in taking an introspective look at the victim, but for EVERYONE to be accountable, for men and women to ask the question: "Why does he/she abuse, control, harm?" We often want to point to the victim with heavy hearts and deep concern and help them to leave. BF is educating and creating awareness around the issue where we are forced to be accountable and to look at the symptoms, signs, and sources of the despicable behavior that often destroys lives and, much too often, takes lives. As a mom, a sister and a friend, I am thankful for organizations like BF -- which is not afraid to be bold and to take a stand. I am honored to be a part of the movement.
