Bat World Sanctuary is the only rescue, rehabilitation, and sanctuary facility in the U.S. that is dedicated exclusively to bats. Amanda Lollar, the founder and president, has never turned away an animal in need. Her selfless dedication to these most misunderstood of creatures is truly inspiring and should serve as a model for us all. Ms. Lollar is tireless in providing the best possible care for these animals, and has sacrificed everything for them. I can't think of a better place to volunteer, or to donate!

Bat World Sanctuary provides a much needed and important service to all bats. These creatures eat thousands of pounds on insects that would have taken over the world by now, without the help of bats. These much maligned creatures provide humans great benefit not only by eating pest insects but they also provide us with great stories, wonderful photos and the opportunity to see them in flight at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. I recommend the highest rating for Bat World. I attended their training nearly 3 years ago and have not had the opportunity to use my education/experience here near Silver City, New Mexico, but am ready, willing and able to, at any time.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing how many wonderful bats they have rescued and released and kept comfortable and happy the bats that were not releasable. This group knows the value of these tiny creatures and reaches out to those in the community/nation who also know the value of bats, to save each and every bat that needs help. They also educate the public in several venues, to better understand the need to keep bats well and alive.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make a network of the trained volunteers so that those of us in remote areas could get together and share our experiences and/or help each other in the rescue of bats.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Have yearly brush-up trainings.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

YES! It taught me how important bats are, how to rescue and care for bats and how vast the organization is that reaches out worldwide to rescue bats.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

I felt how very important it is to save each and every bat and that I was now part of a great organization that rescues and cares for bats.

I was so amazed and comfortable with the work environment and friendly people at the facility, I volunteered with Bat World for two more weeks after my two week internship! The hours were long, the work was good, and it was an intense, bonding and educational experience that changed me, no doubt. If invited back, I'd gladly accept the opportunity to once again work with such amazing people and animals, and I support them to this day. They're certainly an organization and rehabilitation center for animals that should be the standard to meet. Amanda and Bat World, remain strong and fly on!

My volunteer experiences at BatWorld have been nothing less than amazing. As is true with the best organizations, no matter how much you give of your time, energy, financial resources, what you get back from BatWorld is ten-fold. I went to help during baby season--knowing an extra hand is always greatly appreciated. I came away with so much information that will be essential in my own rehab efforts. Amanda's expertise in the healing of injured and ill bats is second to no one. She uses every opportunity to share her knowledge, and makes herself available whenever I've needed help, day or night. What I appreciate most about BatWorld's efforts is the holistic approach that underlies all their initiatives. It begins with a comprehensive understanding of where bats fit into our world and what we would lose without them. BatWorld seeks to save us all with its efforts to save the bats.

As a bat rehabilitator, I couldn't do what I do without the help of Bat World. Besides the invaluable rehab expertise and advice the organization members provide, they are on the cutting edge of bat conservation and issues that affect bats, in particular, WNS.

Bat World is the only
organization of its kind, going beyond advocacy and education and actually providing sanctuary for any and all bats in need.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Bat World is an essential source of materials and information that I use in my own education presentations. And I know they are getting their message out, because almost all of the people who call me regarding a bat in need or for general information have already visited the Bat World website. Most credit their appreciation of bats and their welfare to what they learned through Bat World.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I only wish that Bat World had the resources to provide more hands-on training for rehabbers. However, what this all-volunteer organization accomplishes is amazing. It deserves the support needed to expand its operations.

I have volunteered for this organization in the past and I consider it to have been an honor. They give the highest standard of care to an animal that few realize we, as humans, cannot exist without - they pollinate the food source and plants we need to survive, control harmful night-flying insects that cause disease, they disperse seeds and are 98% responsible for the reforestation of the rain forests - the lungs of our planet. The organization was founded and is run by Amanda Lollar who is not only one of the foremost authorities on bats, but an extraordinary human being. I only wish everyone could experience that which I was allowed to observe and in which I was privileged to participate. Remarkable, totally green organization.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

change nothing about this organization except to spread the word about the remarkable work they do and to recommend they be added to anybody's list of 'giving' so they could receive the support they deserve.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

I cannot think of anything I would change about this organization.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I had the most eye-opening, heartfelt experience with this organization. Their work is exemplary and quite frankly, life changing in every respect.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

This volunteer experience made me feel good about myself and gave me a greater appreciation for the world's most misunderstood animal....the bat.

I got involved with Bat World several years ago after a bat flew through my office building. I got a chance to look this little one straight in the eye! I thought bats were blind! Now I know better. Since then, I've taken Bat World's rehabber course and become a transporter in the area. Each time I can help one of these sweet, fragile creatures be more comfortable it lifts my heart. Amanda, Dottie and Kate are so compassionate, patient and wonderful to these precious souls - and as a cheerleader for the underdog, I give my money and time to help as much as I can. Thank you all for your tireless and often unappreciated work! I know the bats love you for it!

I've been involved with several non-profit organizations over the years, and I'm proud to say that Bat World is the best. This unique organization is run with tremendous efficiency, and not a nickel is wasted. Everything that comes in is used to support the bats, and they receive absolutely the best possible care. In addition to providing exceptional care for the bats, Ms. Lollar freely shares her knowledge and expertise to bat rehabilitators, veterinarians, zoos, sanctuaries, and scientists around the world. If you're looking for a worthy cause to support, this is the one.

When I got in my first bat, in rehab, I started to seek information from people throughout my State, only to learn that no one really had any idea of how to properly care for a bat. Luckily I found Amanda Lollar and she helped me out with her seemingly limitless knowledge of these precious little animals. Being lucky enough to have attended one of her Boot Camps, make me realize how compassionate and dedicated she is to the bats, educating others about bats and a genuine concern for each and every life that comes through her doors. Her expertise far surpassed anything I had seen in any other "rehab" setting. I was honored to learn under her.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the depths of training that you are given from feeding orphans, splinting wings or legs, medications, etc.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand to create a responsible center in each and every State but I realize responsible people are hard to come by.
