Rating: 5 stars   12 reviews

Issues: Children & Youth, Health, Cancer

Location: 140 N Orlando Ave Ste 120 Winter Park FL 32789 USA

Mission: B.A.S.E. Camp has a two-fold meaning: First it is an acronym for Believe, Achieve, Support, & Educate. Second, it symbolizes the encampment that is set up at the base of a mountain that is about to be climbed. We feel that AIDS/HIV, cancer, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, and other rare/orphan hematology diseases are just such mountains in children's lives. Our members are patients, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. We provide programs on an ongoing basis, at no charge to our familes.

I am twelve years old and was diagnosed with cancer three days before Christmas. Base Camp has been so much fun and so supportive to me. I recently attended my first formal dance- The Base Camp Prom and had the time of my life. It was amazing how hard all of them worked to give all of us a wonderful experience I will remember forever. The Staff and Volunteers of Base Camp are like angels sent to make a tough time more bearable.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Through sleepovers and Base Camp Prom

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

None...they do everything great!!!!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

is the caring people and the great activites they provide for kids with Cancer

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, caring and seemed to understand me

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide even more for children with cancer

Ways to make it better...

I could attend all of their functions

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

trying to find enough funds and volunteers

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thanks ....for letting me be a part of Base Camp

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

We truly are blessed to be part of Basecamp. They were wonderful to my family while my son was in the hospital going thru chemo during the holiday season. The folks are Basecamp really care about the kids with cancer and their families. We are gotten to go to overnite sleepovers, a wonderful christmas party. Basecamp is very special to us because we are with other families that can relate to what our family member has gone through. I would highly recommend basecamp to any family with a child with cancer.. They provide lots of support and fun for the whole family...

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

so many wonderful ways. They help so many families in different ways. Basecamp offers lots of support and compassion

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

change nothing. They are doing an awesome job and I am one mom that is very grateful.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

They really do care about what they represent.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Wonderful, friendly, easy going and genuinely caring folks.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Do all the stuff they want to achieve while making children with cancer and their families lives and little easier and happier while going thru treatments

Ways to make it better...

couldn't be any better. It is truly a great organization

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding. to provide all the services they provide

One thing I'd also say is that...

I would highly recommend basecamp to every family that had a child going through cancer.

since moving here to orlando base camp has beeen a great support for my family and I. When we were spending weeks in the hosp;ital they brought us food twice a week. this wa so nice since as we all know hospital food stinks. When we were released i have a daughter that takes many medications that make her hungry all the time. At this time I am unable to work and base camp has helped me feed and find support groups to help her. They have also been a great support for me. As a mother when your child is sick the world seems to just stop, but knowing you have people to talk to that understand and can help has been a great benifit to not going crazy. I have been with base camp only 6 months but anytime I need anything they help get it for me or find a way to help me with it. they are the best support a family who has no or little support can have. without base camp I don't know what I would have done on those long weeks in the hospital or the times I just needed a shoulder to cry oon and understand where i was coming from . THANK YOU BASE CAMP

when they bring thier weekly food to the parents and patients in the hospital.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

basecamp monthly get aways. we get together and talk and be together and have fun where the kids can be kids and not think about the doctors or the treatments

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

kind, conciderate, and did what ever they could to assist the families.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help more families and kids. they could help with parents many trips to the doctors or more help to feed the families as we all know they need it.

Ways to make it better...

they had more funds

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the money needed to keep the organization up and running

One thing I'd also say is that...

I thank all wwho volunteer and help and support this orginazion, going from myself and my husband working two jobs each to only him working has put a large dent in our exspeces it was nice to know i had help when i needed it.

I am a parent that felt like my world turn upside down when my child was diagnosed with Sickle Cell at 6 weeks old. I was blessed to become a family at Base Camp.My son is now 7 yrs old and living a great life through his ups and down days. The staff and volunteers are awesome at BASE CAMP. They provide services to children with all blood disorders. My children look forward to yearly events like Christmas in July, Christmas parties and a Host of other events. One thing I must say about Base Camp is that they really make every family feel special. They also go out of their way to support families in crisis going through cancer treatments and other blood disorders. This organization is one of the best Non- Profits in Central Florida.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

This organization as grown with families over the years. The have also provided a variety of services with limited funds. The recently was able to relocate and have a central office.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would certainly try to fund raise as much as possible to assure that BASE CAMP events continue. Theis organization does a great job looking for funds I am sure, but with this econmony it is a challenge I must expect.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoyed seeing children smile, dance, play and laugh. I have enjoyed seeing staff like Terry and Ms. D very dedicated to the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Staff that always present in a professional caring manner. The have great college volunteers and survivors of cancer and other disorders that assist as a way of giving back to the community.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Assist clients to assure kid get need treatment, It could plan events without funding being an issue. It would host more events for patients that are home bound to enjoy. It could actually have a site that would have full time staff available.

Ways to make it better...

I can not think of anything that could be better, but if this organization had more funding, I am sure the would do more to asssit many families fighting Blood disorders.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding. They need more funding and sponsors.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I truly love the caring and heart filled spirit that BASE CAMP organization displays. BASE CAMP's mission stands for so much. They truly want to see children smile, get medical treatment and enjoy the good days and get through the bad days.
