BASE CAMP IS a heaven sent. I have a 9 year old daughter who has brain cancer and her tumor can not be removed. Base Camp has made this tragedy a easier road for my family. I owe them everything and I can not think them enough. I give them 100 stars for there love and support for families like my own.

BASE Camp gave me my life back!... I was ten years old, diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (Cancer of the bone in my knee), laying in a hospital bed, undergoing multiple rounds of Chemotherapy -which removed all my hair (from every area of my body), and left me dredfully sick majority of the time. In addition, I was devastated by the fact that my 'entire' leg had recently been amputated up to my mid-thigh due to Cancer doctors found in my knee the size of a pea! To this day, I wonder the reason all my friends abandoned me. Was it because of my physical appearance, the fact that I had lost a leg and was no longer the athlete I once was, or just the fact that they didn't understand my situation and fled from fear. Regardless the reason, I felt alone, less of a person, depressed, and hopeless. This feeling was taking a negative toll on my body, as the chemo was already attacking my immune system! As I felt the little life I did have was taken away from me. Just as I reached my lowest point, Terry and BASE Camp entered my life. (-She later expressed to me how the distress of my situation reflected on my face!) Terry, and BASE Camp were the best thing that could have ever happened to me! They accepted me, EVEN with my bald head, and one leg, and made me feel as though there was nuthing even wrong with me!?! Finally, I felt not only human, but like a regular kid again!! I looked forward to going...ESCAPING to the monthly outings with BASE Camp where there were other kids going through what I was going through, and helping me get through it! It became my home, and family away from home. They provided the perfect support system and restored my lifes momentum!! Subsequently, after finishing my rounds of Chemo treatments and physical therapy, I began volunteering for BASE Camp sharing my story with newly diagnosed patients. It brought an emense amount of self-fulfillment everytime I had the opportunity to do for others what BASE Camp had done for me. I had given up the will to pursue life, but BASE Camp brought it back to me. I am so appreciative to have had such an ongoing support system not only for me, but for my family as well! And for that, I am eternally gratful. Thanks BASE Camp!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have experienced life changing moments with this organization that are beyond words. To say the least, they were my inspiration.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase the amount of funding generated for them so that they could do more. They were able to produce miracles by finding ways to stretch a dollar!!

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Returning the inspiration of life.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Genuinely concerned about the all around well-being of the patient and their family memebers involved.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand, and provide the hope, support, and value of life to even more families out there.

Ways to make it better...

It was great just as it was... but so that more people could experience what I did, I would solicit more financial support.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Financial.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Terry, Jackie, Laurie, and the rest of the BASE Camp family are all awesome caring people!! Get to know them for yourself!

I began volunteering at BASE Camp in May. I had no idea what to expect, but what I have experienced has been greater than anything I could have ever asked for. While volunteering with BASE Camp I have been able to participate in their weekly hospital visits as well as their monthly overnight camps. I have also gotten to work in their office answering phones, sending out birthday cards, and doing anything else that they need me to do. BASE Camp has given me such a rewarding experience and the people that I have interacted with have been wonderful (both the staff and the program participants). The one thing that amazes me about BASE Camp is their ability to make so much happen with so little funding. They are able to stretch a dollar further than one would think possible! All of their hard work towards making their children feel "normal" has definitely paid off and is visible to any volunteer that walks though BASE Camp's doors.

The Great!

I have seen first-hand the excitement that the children have when they get to go on one of the BASE Camp overnight trips. Their faces literally light up and they get to be a normal kid for a weekend.

I began volunteering with BASE Camp in my last year of law school as a pro-bono requirement to graduate. Truth be told, I was most likely only going to grab my requisite hours and move on. However, for a time after my hours were complete until my life shut down to study for the bar exam, i continued to participate with BASE Camp because of the great program that was run by the directors. The incredibly selfless actions, along with the generosity of both the organization and the fellow volunteers was too much not to be a part of. I now consider myself a full time volunteer and a part of the team. The value of the experience is immeasurable and the value of the help BASE Camp offers to the children and families stricken with cancer is also immeasurable.

I started at BASE Camp as a kid. I had leukemia at 15 years old. I went to their outtings and events. I had such a great time there. It helped me to get away from the reality of all the treatments and medicines I was going through. I remember going and seeing all these other kids younger and older dealing with the same issues i was. I remember being able to take my hat off because I was not the only one without hair due to the medicine we were taking. It gave me something to look forward to and helped with my confidence level. I am a volunteer there now. I know my main goal while im there, is to make each kid smile. We have so much fun between the pool, contests, games, and just pure fun. These kids have a chance to experience all the joy i did and would have missed, if it wasnt for BASE Camp. Thanks so much BASE Camp.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

DO so much more. They would be an inspiration to all orginizations for kids. The volunteers have hearts of gold and think of nothing but for those kids. I believe they would create a daily camp instead of monthly. I believe that would be so awesome.

I'm am truly grateful to have been apart of the BASECamp team. Prior to volunteering, I didn't know much about BASECamp but once I'd learned of the services that they provide for the children and witnessed the support given to the families, I was honered. I came to BASECamp to gain some office work experience but what I left with was something far greater. The staff of BASECamp treated me like family. They put their heart into eveything they do. My experience with BASECamp was a memorable one.

I am twelve years old and was diagnosed with cancer three days before Christmas. Base Camp has been so much fun and so supportive to me. I recently attended my first formal dance- The Base Camp Prom and had the time of my life. It was amazing how hard all of them worked to give all of us a wonderful experience I will remember forever. The Staff and Volunteers of Base Camp are like angels sent to make a tough time more bearable.

The small staff of BASE Camp work around the clock to support and bring joy to the lives of children afflicted with cancer and their families. They are the most caring, devoted, tireless workers on earth. They do more actual good with limited resources than can be believed. Terri and Jackie sponsor numerous events for the kids, bring food to children in multiple hoppitals, and have created a unique enviornment where kids with cancer can have wonderful, affirming experiences with their peers. Truly Amazing!

We truly are blessed to be part of Basecamp. They were wonderful to my family while my son was in the hospital going thru chemo during the holiday season. The folks are Basecamp really care about the kids with cancer and their families. We are gotten to go to overnite sleepovers, a wonderful christmas party. Basecamp is very special to us because we are with other families that can relate to what our family member has gone through. I would highly recommend basecamp to any family with a child with cancer.. They provide lots of support and fun for the whole family...

since moving here to orlando base camp has beeen a great support for my family and I. When we were spending weeks in the hosp;ital they brought us food twice a week. this wa so nice since as we all know hospital food stinks. When we were released i have a daughter that takes many medications that make her hungry all the time. At this time I am unable to work and base camp has helped me feed and find support groups to help her. They have also been a great support for me. As a mother when your child is sick the world seems to just stop, but knowing you have people to talk to that understand and can help has been a great benifit to not going crazy. I have been with base camp only 6 months but anytime I need anything they help get it for me or find a way to help me with it. they are the best support a family who has no or little support can have. without base camp I don't know what I would have done on those long weeks in the hospital or the times I just needed a shoulder to cry oon and understand where i was coming from . THANK YOU BASE CAMP
