The company performs in a wide variety of venues ranging from proscenium theaters to alternative spaces and has created site specific work indoors and outdoors.
Education and outreach are an integral part of AXIS Dance Company's work. AXIS believes that providing dance opportunities to all people regardless of background serves to enrich the community, to support AXIS' performance and touring activities, and to generate greater interest and participation in "integrated" dance, dance for people with and without disabilities. In keeping with our company's collaborative approach and philosophy, AXIS strives to keep both our teaching teams and our Dance Access classes comprised of people with and without physical disabilities.
Our Dance Access outreach and education program includes ongoing classes for adults, children and youth; master classes and intensive teacher trainings; performance labs; lecture demonstration; residencies and pre- and post-performance Q & A's.
I have not had the privilege of viewing an AXIS performance live, but I have been awe inspired and struck by the physical & spiritual beauty their performances convey. The integration of different abilities brings focus to the strength of the individual and has inspired me to find my own inner strengths, for this I thank them! I look forward to the day I can experience their performance live.
I first heard of Axis, a few weeks before their last presence in dancing with the stars. I did my research and was in disbelieve of the amazing work of promoting integration through modern dance this group has made. This last weekend I had the amazing pleasure of seing them perform live, and I can tell you my expectations were swept, by an impressive and talented group of individuals. Keep up the good work.
