I am on the Board of Attachment Parenting International and continue to be impressed with the quality of leadership, both from the Excecutive Director and staff, to the heart of the organization, it's volunteer Leaders and staff. These men and women give freely of their time, enriching the lives of so many families in their communities, supporting parents so that they can nurture their children. API understands that to truly change a culture, we have to start with young parents who need and want education, support, and guidance.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the incredible benefits of empowerment to mothers, fathers, and professionals in the field of child development.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to increase funding for their programs, including funding their parenting curriculum for teens and other undereducated young parents. I would also try to increase their visibility as an organization, as an example of an excellent grassroots movement.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The hope it gives me for mankind to see the love and commitment of so many volunteers, giving their time to support and nurture parents so that they can nurture their children.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

committed, educated, kind, and nurturing. They understand that in order to help others, they must set an example for young parents to follow. Even the paid staff give many more volunteer hours than paid hours, because they see the huge need.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

create parenting centers in every community where parents could get evidence based support for childbirth, breastfeeding, nurturing parenting, and positive discipline through the lifespan. We would also fund multi-disciplinary professional conferences.

Ways to make it better...

we had the funding to fullfill all of the need for outreach and evidence based materials that would help parents. Many parents are open to get help when they have a new baby, yet they are confused about the misinformation that they hear in our culture

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

changing the paradigm in our culture from fixing problems after they have manifested, to a prevention oriented culture that helps parents from pre-pregnancy through the lifespan of parenting. Funding needs to be focused here, not on the other end.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Babies are our future and deserve to come into a society that gives their parents the education and support to love, nurture, protect and properly educate their children.

API has helped me reach out to other parents in the community to help foster strong and secure bonds with our children. The organization has allowed us to forge lifelong friendships while ensuring that our children receive the best start to life - breastfeeding, responsive parenting, and much more.

API is a marvelous organization! I wish every expectant couple, and every family with children would know about the amazing resources and empowering information put out by this group. API is changing the world, one attached and nurtured baby at a time...

change the way parents think about raising their children! It could reach doctors' and midwives' offices, hospitals, birth centers, community organizations, etc., and empower people to nurture their children and have confident, attached, independent kids

Attachment Parenting International provides such needed education and support for an approach to parenting that is often overlooked in our society but that is, ironically, so vital for a sustainably healthy society. I love the articles, the support group feature, the forum, the teleseminars, the blog, and more.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my family. We are a more connected family all the way around, and my children are growing up to be compassionate and emotionally balanced and mature.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do exactly what's being done. I could not run it any better than what's being done in this economic recession.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the great availability of reading materials and connection to experts in the parenting field.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. They are parents themselves, which gives great credibility to the organization -- they believe enough in API to give back!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

literally change the world. It could reach more families and prevent child abuse, and go so far as to even prevent violence. Attachment Parenting is all about violence prevention. Once you become educated, global peace is actually attainable.

Ways to make it better...

there were more local support groups.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

a lack of understanding of the full impact that Attachment Parenting has. Attachment Parenting is not a quick fix -- it's a process. What's popular is the quick fix, though quick fixes are not effective.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this organization does such a good job of reaching parents on a very limited budget. It has hundreds of volunteers around the world. People only dedicate hours to an organization that is worth those hours.

I've found API incredibly useful as I work to raise my child in a loving, respectful, and positive way. They have so many resources for parents, from books to blogs to forums to articles -- not to mention their trained leaders. They have really enriched my life and have helped me raise my daughter to be a secure, independent, and loving child. API deserves support!

More and more new parents are beginning to realize the importance of creating a closer bond with their infants and children and following a more hands-on and involved approach in order to optimize emmotional and intellectual development. In past decades, some parenting styles have promoted a more detached, distant approach to parenting in the hopes of creating more independent and low-maintenance children. Such

Attachment Parenting International (API) is a testimony to how parents who care about their children and their community can mobilize to bring valuable information to all parents. API is a nonprofit that stays focused on its mission because of dedicated volunteers providing local support. API works smart and efficiently and is a good investment, leveraging funds to go far in not only the prevention of child abuse, but in nurturing children for healthy lifelong wellbeing, for themselves and toward others.
