The Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency (ACSS) is helping to empower homeless individuals to achieve economic self sufficiency. Through ACSS CareerWorks programs, participants receive all the resources a homeless person needs to plan and carry out a successful job search. The result? Nearly 70% percent of our graduates find employment within 3 to 4 months!
ACSS is also cutting edge in their approach to development. In keeping with their mantra of self-sufficiency, significant portions of the organization's funding is earned through social enterprise. Cafe 458 serves Sunday brunch with all proceeds going to ACSS. And, CST Cleaning Services provides program graduates an opportunity to work and build job experience. CST Cleaning Services cleans offices, restaurants and outdoor grounds. They have some impressive accounts including the Governor's Offices! And, interestingly, though not exclusively for veterans, all current ACSS CST team members are veterans.

I am a former board member, and have heard first hand many many success stories from graduates of the ACSS program. I think one of its keys is that they give clients all of the tools they need to get a job but the client ultimately gets the job him/herself, which preserves one's dignity and results in a significantly longer term of employment.

ACSS is an incredible organization that helps the homeless in metro Atlanta become self sufficient primarily through a 4 week job readiness program. I've been involved with the organization for over two years now and am very impressed with its staff, clients and most importantly, the impact its had on the community.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
...attending ACSS VIP graduation, helping shape the strategy and the goals of the non profit, helping fundraise, among other things
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
...hire more marketing staff so that more Atlantans would know about ACSS
I utilized their service. I went through the program because I was told that they would help me find a job. However, I was disappointed in that I was given no job leads and even when I shared information with them regarding the places where I was job hunting (and they had contacts there), they would not contact the company on my behalf. I primarily performed my own job search and located my own job. The marta cards that they provided were very helpful and allowed me to travel around and search for work.

Having the marta cards relieved a lot of my stress as to how I would get around to find work. The clothing referrals for work attire was really appreciated.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would develop more reliable contacts within companies so that I would be notified of job openings and I could refer and advocate clients to specific locations if they had the qualifications and disposition for the job.
Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency is a wonderful organization that helps homeless people thrive in life. I recently volunteered at Cafe 458 and prepared and served lunch to about 60 homeless men and women. I enjoyed the whole experience. The staff, the volunteers the people I served all made it an enjoyable day. I will definetely be back to volunteer again. I have told so many people about my experience and they have since signed up to volunteer. Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency is doing wonders for the people they serve each day!
