I am going on my second year serving on the Board of ATG Against The Grain Productions. I followed the organization right out of college, and then last year, a fellow board member and friend contacted me to recruit for the greater good and to help me gain more experience in what I wanted truly do with my career. ATG's main role and purpose is their pledge to support orphanages in Vietnam (and expanding) and recognize Asian-American students who decide to major in the arts, which is something that I did. I was intrigued to find out more and after this last year, I gained more than just experience, I adapted to a new family and a major interest for what ATG stands for - how we actually go against the grain.

Tammy Nguyen Lee's background, stories, passion and inspiration motivated me to do more than I ever thought I could do. She truly is the ideal role model, she's a triple threat and someone that I've learned from and continuing. To know that I am apart of an organization that dedicates and focuses on the little details for a person's life through the community outreach programs and fundraising, means more than anything just to share it with those around me and much more.

ATG Against The Grain Productions has not only given me a chance to use my skills, but to apply those skills for a greater purpose. I first took part in this organization during my senior year in college, when I was voted onto the Board as a Director of Marketing and Public Relations. I've held the position of Secretary for two years now. It is truly an honor to join a group of hardworking leaders and professionals. We have the mission to raise money for orphanages and scholarships for students, while showcasing the talents of artists and engaging the community in cultural awareness. I have matured very much in the three years serving as a board member. I grew as the organization grew. We have humble beginnings of the founder's vision, whose passion drew in a group of friends and community leaders onto a Board of Directors. Now it's expanded into a highly regarded nonprofit with a Board of Directors and Creative Team. We also have generous support from respectable sponsors and community partners. And to think it's completely grassroots with people brought together by passion, as no one on the ATG team is paid. All this growth has me looking forward to the future as we are persistently integrate generous support and innovative strategy to further our mission.

Mahatma Gandhi said "be the change you want to see in the world” and that's exactly what ATG strives to be. I'd joined the board this year because I truly believe in ATG's commitment to improve the lives of orphaned children in Asia and supporting emerging Asian-American artists and leaders. ATG has touched/changed so many lives for the better, including mine. I am inspired by Tammy, our 100% volunteer team, and the generosity of others who also believe in being the change they want to see in the world.
