We went to an adoption event put on by the Irvine Animal Shelter and there were many organizations there. We really like the people from the GSROC. They were very informative and helpful. We got the 4-month old puppy we really wanted. Now 7 months later, she is a great dog and fitting in well with our family. The follow-up and training was great. We have recommended this organization to our friends and at least one of them have also adopted a dog through GSROC.

I first called German Shep. Rescue Orange County 2 yrs ago when my German Shepherd died..I wanted to donate her meds. They were so gracious and appreciative. They sent me a heartfelt thank you card and even called me to see how I was doing after my loss. Since then I donate when I can, and they always follow up w/ a hand written card. I follow them on facebook as well and see the time and effort they put in to save German Shepherds. Their genuine love of the breed is so evident. I also followed the story on the news about Courage..a german shep. that was tied up left to starve. They rescued him and took amazing care of him and found him a great home. These people are such an inspiration!

I adopted a dog from German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County in 2009. I had such a good experience that I became a volunteer in 2010. First, I was a recipient of the dedication and commitment that this organization demonstrates every day with every dog and every adoption. Now I help carry out these same values. GSROC is a wonderful place to adopt the right dog AND has been such a rewarding place for me to invest my time.

The German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County is BY FAR AND AWAY the most successful and passionate organization I've ever known and witnessed in action. Their strategic, yet loving, approach to adoptions should be replicated across the country. The adoption and fundraiser events are well planned, well attended and result in hundreds of dogs finding wonderful forever homes, many of which arrived to them in dire condition. They earn every dime of their donations, and "rescue" dogs from high kill shelters, finding them loving homes. They dont just passively care for abandoned dogs, they actively seek to place dogs in foster care when possible, as well. I cannot say enough amazing things about this organization.

We had just recently lost our beloved GSD Daisy. When I told my wife I was going to a breeder and she suggested we contact a rescue instead, I looked online and found German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, our whole experience was wonderful they have great people working with them who help us find a great new family member in Joseph. The work they do is indispensable. We also found a new very good friend in Barbara, Joseph's foster mom before he came to us.

I am both a volunteer and repeat adopter of 7 dogs over the years. I was an adopter long before I became a volunteer. This group is incredible. They put maximum effort into rescuing, rehabbing and finding the right family for each dog. Great people doing great work.

I have written for this group and been able to know first hand their incredible rescue successes for roughly three years. This rescue exceeds all my expectations for its organization, dedication, compassion, and consistency. I am amazed at this group of people who really care and work hard together every week-end year round to orchestrate adoption events. Even on Christmas Day, they managed to rescue a sick dog!! Remarkably, this past year they have found great adoptive homes for over 400 German Shepherd dogs, including those that were sick, abused, and neglected as well as handicapped or senior dogs.

When we had to put two old dogs to sleep in less than one year, our pack was decimated. We have a soft spot for German Shepherds or GS crosses, so we contacted GSROC. They were so helpful and responsive. We had a long dialog, where we were looking for just the right type of dog for our particular situation. They were consistently on the lookout for our type, and emailed us several options as they came available. Then our dog, an eight week old puppy, was rescued from a kill shelter. They contacted us immediately, saying they had found our dog. Sure enough, I only had to pick up little Brody for 10 seconds, and knew immediately that he was the one. Everyone (including us) who has seen Brody thinks its our old Cody who has come back to us. If not for GSROC and their diligence in looking for a dog that met our criteria, we would never have found him. We will be looking for a new dog come this summer, and we will definitely work with GSROC again to find it. We cannot recommend them highly enough!

Review from Guidestar
October 26, 2011

A very professional organization that has an all volunteer staff that does wonders for many dogs . At the end of year 2010, this organization placed nearly 400 dogs annually. All without having any facilities to work out of or to house the dogs. Most dogs are in commercial kennels that have to be paid for on a nightly basis. All this all while operating with no paid employees. Truly the definition of what a true charity should be. A group of volunteers who work tirelessly to make a difference.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Witnessing the placements after the rehabilitation of abandoned dogs through very thorough screening.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Persuade more donors to assist with donations & fund raising as this organization gets no funding from corporate or governmental agencies. Your dollars will go a long way for the dogs as everyone is a volunteer with no facilities to work from.
