Issues: Education, Health, Human Services, Seniors

Location: 3128 Walton Blvd Ste 247 Rochester Hills MI 48309 USA

Mission: ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Southeastern Michigan is a volunteer service organization whose members identify, develop, implement and fund ongoing philanthropic projects to serve specific needs of children and older adults. Active adult volunteers are devoted to improving their local communities through effective volunteerism.
Programs: Operation School Bell provides winter clothing for disadvantaged elementary school children. Stores are set up in the school for a one-day shopping experience where the children can shop for new clothing (winter coat, hat, gloves, blue jeans, underwear, socks, a duffel bag containing a book and hygiene items, and a voucher for shoes). Students are chosen by the schools districts in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties.  Shelters in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County are provided with children's clothing, school supplies, and toiletry items throughout the year.

I have volunteered in many capacities for this organization for over two years. This is a group of over 300 women who work to make the lives of those in need in southeastern Michigan a little easier. We have programs for everyone who wishes to volunteer, as little or as much as you wish to contribute of your time, talents and treasures. We clothed over 2000 elementary school aged children this year in our Operation School Bell. I also love to tutor in the Pontiac School District. I continue to write grants for this organization and work on the fundraisers. I also volunteer to work at the upscale resale store that is the source of the majority of the funding for our programs. Come out to one of our monthly meetings in Rochester and you will be hooked! Check out our webpage at semich.assistanceleague.org

I joined Assistance League 9 years ago and have been actively involved with this organization since then. Clothing over 2,000 children last year allows a retired teacher to still help children. Delivering Assault Survivor Kits to hospitals and clinics and Layette sets to needy mothers in all areas of our state shows the care and commitment of this organization. These women work hard all the time all year to help others in need.
