I am an elementary guidance counselor and we have received a therapy dog from A.D.A.I. We have had her for five years. She brightens the day for many children who have various needs. She is used as a motivator, a reward, a responsibility, a friend, a de-stresser, and a hero. "Assistance dogs" has been very helpful when we have had issues with dog behaviors and have aligned us with other educators when we have program concerns. Our whole school community greatly endorses this agency!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The two schools that Dixie (our dog) goes between appreciate her calm demeanor, her patience, her perseverence and her intelligence. Watching her in action with children speaks volumes in the most positive way. The connection she makes with children is innate---it's not a command I give to her. A.D.A.I. is a quality agency that truly knows their dogs and matches them appropriately.

I would suggest more follow-up after placement by coming to our site.

I have been involved with ADAI since 2008 when I helped with the training of my first dog, Archie, a Golden Retriever. That is when I realized how important Dogs can be in the lives of humans and the miraculous things they can be trained to do. He opened the door to a wonderful world of excitement and my desire to continue on. ADAI has high standards and strong work ethics instilled in their Service/Therapy Dogs. The dedication and drive is so recognizable the very moment you walk on premise. The staffing is like family and you are treated with so much respect and kindness. At the present our family not only works with the training end but also act as Foster Parents for the pup in training, caring for it and doing the things it needs to grow strong and healthy, at the same time building the foundation for obedience and good manners. The skills each dog possess are so gently groomed and polished. ADAI has one of the finest training programs, all managed by a fantastic working staff that unite together to bring out the best in what they stand for.

By being participant in the training, foster program I have experienced the greatest joy one could ever imagine in the area of working with an animal and seeing the end result of what they so amazingly can do. I have been so fortunate to become adoptive parent under the Fabulous Flunkie Program. The blessings of adopting a Fabulous Flunkie are absolutely heart warming.

They so desperately need more room for training and living arrangements for their beautiful pups. They do well with what they have to work with. I would love to see more contributions and participation in the fund raising arena to help with their basic needs and improvements. Remembering ADAI with a generous donation and incorporating them in your estate planning leaves a forever memory to such a worthy cause. My photos and video are of beautiful dogs I have fostered and trained with.

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Definitely

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Very Well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

OH my... they are so perfect in every way as is. I cannot even think of one measure for improvement. They have what it takes to feel recognized and important when you work with them. It would be awesome to have larger training areas to work in. Other than that, asking of them to improve would be an insult as they are so perfect in every manner.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

My involvement with ADAI has generously changed the way I look at a dog. I now realize that not only do they have personalities, they have goals and skills that can be unleashed and used productively. It makes me respect and acknowledge my dogs in a more productive manner.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Ten FEET tall. The end result of training a pup and seeing it soar through the final stages of training, doing the things that to some would seem unbelieveable, has totally changed my belief in one of God's greatest creations.

I am a school counselor who has had the privilege of working with a trained school therapy dog provided to my school by Assistance Dogs of America, Inc. This dog has not only influenced my life, but also the lives of hundreds of school children who come into contact with her every day at school. She greets children in the morning with a wag of her tail, starting off the children's school day with a smile. Students say she "licks away their tears" when they are sad and provides unconditional love to everyone. Assistance Dogs of America, Inc. has been there to help me as I learned to work with a dog at school. They do not place a job and go on their way. Their staff is always available to help and support my efforts and to see that the match they have helped create is the best it can be. This organization and the wonderful dogs they train and place change lives and make the world a better place.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being trained by them to work with the school therapy dog and have seen the wonderful blessings and small miracles that take place daily when you pair children with a loving dog in a school setting.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

enable them to enlarge their facility and staff in order to train and place more dogs to influence and improve the lives of more people.

I was fortunate enough to receive a service dog from ADAI 3 years ago. She changed my life! Not only does my beautiful dog help me with the things she has been trained to do, but taking care of her is like a little daily physical therapy session. When I first brought her home with me, she helped me regain some of the self-confidence I lost when I first became disabled.

The people who work at ADAI are some of the most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. They are all fantastic and caring people who go out of their way to help any way they can. I look forward to many more years of being associated with ADAI.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way the people there have always helped in any way they can and I am blessed to be the recipient of one of the service dogs they have trained.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them more funding, more property, better facilities, more dogs, and increase the number of staff and volunteers. But I have never seen an organization put limited resources to better use.

I have had contact with Assistance of Dogs of America, for the last 6 years. Three wonderful years ago I received my very first service dog from this organization which was three years after my initial acceptance into the program. Words not begin to describe the many good things Assistance Dogs have done and mean to me (in giving me my beloved dog). They have made it possible for me to independent once again. Once you are excepted into their program you are made to feel as you are part of a very special family. Each person connected with Assistance Dogs; be it a staff, volunteer, board member, etc. always has excepted me with out stretched arms. Always available and always ready to answer a question or meet me need. I would recommend anyone needing a service and/or therapy dog check Assistance Dogs of America.

Assistance Dogs of America, Inc. helped us by placing a therapy dog with our severely autistic son. Because of ADAI - and the wonderful dog they provided to us - our son is now much more involved in school, able to attend family and community functions, and is simply a much happier and healthier child.

The difference ADAI has made in our lives cannot be over-estimated. These are simply the most wonderful people we have ever been involved with. I urge everyone looking for a great charity to consider giving to Assistance Dogs of America. They have changed not only my son's life, but the lives of everyone in our home.

The only changes I would make would be to help increase their funding so they can help more families like ours.

My teenaged daughter fostered 3 dogs over the last 5-6 years. While my daughter was the trainer and caregiver of the dogs, the rest of our family was involved in general day to day intereaction and caring for the dog. This volunteer experience has been an amazing opportunity for my daughter. She is by nature quiet and not comfortable around people she does not know. Volunteering forced her to talk to strangers in the public about her trainee when they ask questions when seeing the dog in public. As she became a better trainer she also has become more confident in explaining to people the purpose of her dog. Her self esteem has skyrocketed since getting involved. When one of her trainees was placed with a disabled teenage client she realized how much she had actually helped to make this girl's life a bit easier. Although my daughter and the client have only seen each other 3 times, they talk like they have known each other for years. It is clear that a special bond developed over the dog that my daughter trained and which is now part of this client's family.
The staff at ADAI is wonderful and made my daughter feel that she was an important part of the organization which made her want to do the best job she could for ADAI. ADAI provides an amazing service for its clients but I think it does just as much for its volunteers.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

going through the foster process and seeing the dogs graduate to placements with disabled individuals or as therapy dogs in schools or other institutions.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

get them a bigger facility and more trainers.
