Address:

96 Engle Street Suite 120 Englewood NJ 07631 USA

Mission:

ArtWorks provides children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and their siblings, access to creative and performing arts programs that encourage the use of the creative process as a vehicle for healing, communication, self-expression and personal development. ArtWorks seeks to empower, validate, and honor these children by offering them the hands-on experience and materials with which to create, as well as the opportunity to publicly share their artistic accomplishments.

Programs:

Express yourself: a creative and performing art exhibition that provides children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and their siblings, with the open and loving forum to express themselves through the arts. In a safe environment, filled with families, friends, healthcare specialists and artworks supporters, these children sing, dance, recite poetry, play instruments and stand proudly by their works of art. The process of preparing for the "express yourself" event provides these children with a much needed creative outlet and gives them something to look forward to and work towards, taking the focus away from the pain and sorrow of illness.

intensive creative artists in residence (intensive cair): provides quality creative arts workshops in the hospital setting for children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses and their siblings. Workshop leaders are professional artists that are trained to work with the pediatric population in the hospital setting. "intensive cair" is designed to teach patients new skills, help them explore new materials, keep them active and engaged and give them opportunities to express and communicate their thoughts and experiences in a creative and positive way. Results have proven that collaborative creative activities serve to reduce stress and anxiety, decrease attention to pain and normalize the hospital experience for the young patients and their families.

traveling art show/surprise! Supplies: the "traveling art show" is a unique mobile art gallery that extends the longevity of "express yourself" exhibitions by taking the art show on the road, making stops at participating hospitals, galleries, schools, libraries and other venues throughout new york and new jersey. "surprise! Supplies" is a program that distributes art supplies and craft projects to pediatric patients in hospitals. "surprise! Supplies" are delivered to children in bright and colorful, custom designed mobile art carts. These supplies keep patients and their siblings busy creating art, while aniticpating a long day in treatment or accompanying a sibling to a medical procedure.

I've seen the Artworks team in action and believe the work they do is so impactdul and brings such joy and pride to the children and hospitals they serve. They are dedicated, creative, and committed to providing a needed outlet for these kids to take their mind off of the often terrible circumstances they face. Proud to be a supporter!!

The love that the staff of Artworks has for children suffering with life threatening illnesses is amazing. They are committed to helping these kids cope with the struggles, pain and disappointments of their illnesses. Through Express Yourself, providing art supplies with Surprise Supplies and Art Carts, and Intensive Cair classes, kids can forget about their struggles if only for a day.

I've helped with their yearly fundraising events and have attended several ArtWorks Express Yourself concerts and exhibitions. The programs truly makes a tangible and measurable difference to every child and family that it reaches. Coming from an art background and having a parent who is an art therapist, ArtWorks resonated with me on a personal and professional level, but it has also become clear to me that others feel the same way when they are exposed to what ArtWorks does. Ive also met with professionals in the medical field who know how much the art supplies mean to the children who use them. That is a great testament to what ArtWorks does.

It has been a pleasure being involved with ArtWorks, both on the giving and the receiving end. My daughter, who is a cancer survivor, has proudly displayed some of her art in the Express Yourself Show, and we were thoroughly entertained and inspired by the performances! We have also helped to support a Surprise!Supplies Art Cart. Daniela Mendelsohn and ArtWorks truly make this world a more beautiful place for so many families!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing so much positive energy coming out of very difficult and tragic situations. Children have an amazing desire and ability to find joy, no matter what their circumstances, and the programs provided by ArtWorks allow them to shine.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

inspiring and passionate.
