It is an honor to volunteer for the Art Therapy Studio. For the clients who do not have a "voice" for expression, and for those who need to strengthen their "voices" through visual art, the Art Therapy Studio provides an invaluable service. The sense of accomplishment while creating one's own masterpiece cannot be measured. Creative, compassionate, and caring...words to describe the staff of the Art Therapy Studio.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Witnessing the sense of accomplishment and pride in clients who strive to express themselves through visual art.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make certain that funding streams grow.

The Art Therapy Studio reaches out to the community to provide not only art classes (Discover the Artist) but a system of social support. People (from my experience with the DTA group that I facilitate) who are for the most part socially isolated, can come together and share their stories, support one another and find a common bond through the art. They have a sence of belonging to something. The Art Therapy Studio provides people with a safe place where they aren't afraid to be themselves, where they can try new things and feel successful in their efforts. It is a wonderful thing to see the pride displayed on the face of someone as they smile ear to ear with their latest accomplishment. It is so rewarding to guide people through their uncertainity when they begin a project and give them the support, encouragement and guidance to see things out to the end. The Art Therapy Studio helps so many people through this process, regardless of their ability to pay! The Art Therapy Studio, for as many years as I have been with them, has always provided financial support / scholorship assistance to the many people enrolled in their classes that would otherwise have not have the resources to attend.

The Art Therapy Studio helps so many poeple, regardless of their ability to pay! They reach out to the community, especially the elderly and those who have sustained medical or traumatic injury. It would be wouderful if more people / organizations could be aware of how the Art Therapy Studio gives to those individuals within their communities and support the Art Therapy Studio so that they can continue to provide such wonderful programming to people (despite their ability to pay).

The Art Therapy Studio is an incredibly wonderful asset to the Cleveland community. Over the years I have had many connections to the Studio, as a mental health professional taking workshops, a client taking classes, and as a personal friend of co-founder Dr. George Streeter.

How many
communities have a welcoming, professionally-staffed place to go to learn about Art Therapy, to just be creative in a broad array of media? The service the Studio provides to those whose faculties are compromised is invaluable. And I personally have greatly appreciated all the opportunities I've had to be encouraged in my creativity there.

Some people say you have to go to art school to be an artist. The Studio nurtures the artist in all of us.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase publicity, so more people could take advantage of all the Studio has to offer.

The first time I approached the office of The Art Therapy Studio I was immediately struck by the wonderful sense of possibility, energy and hope. Art Therapy Studio is lead by a group of truly committed, passionate individuals who provide a wealth of knowledge and financial support. The organization makes each penny serve multiple times over. During the years I have known Art Therapy Studio I have heard innumerable stories of the help they have given to so many. Right now they are yet again re-inventing themselves to further improve their programming and serve more individuals. This is truly a great organization!

Upon retiring three and half yrs.ago as a professional counselor+ educator using art to help my students, I felt it was my turn to develop my creative side. The art therapy studio is a huge asset to Cleveland, reaching out to help tap creativity and help facilitate others dealing with hidden emotional blocks through art. It has helped me immensely. I have learned a lot and enjoy sharing the energy of others who are less fortunate than myself! Its a nurturing place for emotional needs, as well as expanding ones artistic abilities.

I look forward to my art classes every week, and have no idea what will come out in my artistic expression! One thing is for sure, I am improving!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have a larger space. (Fairhill is small)...better materials to work with. Bigger selection of paints, paint brushes, and over all exposure to different techniques-using different materials.

It must be more than 10 years ago when I first wandered into an art gallery in Chagrin Falls where there was a sign in the back that said "Discover the Artist in You". I was depressed, working 11pm - 7am, divorced, and did not really trust very many people. What I did most of the time was cry. In the back of the gallery, there was a woman named Marty who was teaching a small group of women to paint. They were laughing and having fun, and they all talked to me. Marty said something like I should look around and come back next week. I told her I had no talent for painting, no talent for anything at all. I think Marty heard the desperation in my voice. Marty said she didn't care whether I could paint or not, it didn't matter. She would teach me.
Marty taught me to paint, and she helped me stop crying. She, and the women I painted with for a number of years, in large part, gave me my life back. The Art Therapy Studio was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I still paint at home, I work afternoon shift, I am perusing my BSN, and I trust more. Most importantly, I'm very simply, still alive!

I was privileged to work for the Art Studio as an art therapist for over four years. During that time, I saw firsthand the impact that the arts could have on the lives of people of all ability levels. In addition to expressing themselves creatively, the clients of the art studio came to form a community that was welcoming and supportive to everyone, no matter a person's color, creed or situation. It was truly a blessed experience for all involved, both clients and staff.

I was involved with the Art Therapy Studio for more than eight years when I lived in the Cleveland area. During that time, I saw many students express themselves through art. Art offers an avenue to healing, self expression, and self discovery. This is a fabulous art therapy based organization that is much needed in the community. I highly suggest funding this organization which does so much to support those who often do not have many other resources.

I was previously employeed at the art studio and continue to support all the wonderful activities and services they bring to the greater Cleveland area. The art studio was my introduction to the art therapy field whe I was an art therapy student. I learned more then I could write in this review. To put it simply it made me the therapist I am today and provided me with a strong foundation of art therapy and counseling approaches. The art studio has inspired many future art therapist and continues to provide guideance to future art therapy counseling students.
